Cadillac IMSA Prototype Racing Program Gains Another Team For 2019

American racing team Juncos Racing today announced that it has locked into a partnership with Cadillac V-Performance for the 2019 IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship, making a deal to run its own Cadillac DPi-V.R prototype race car throughout next year’s season. The car will make its debut at the Roar Before the Rolex 24 January 4th through the 6th, ahead of the season-opening Rolex 24 Hours at Daytona from January 27th through the 28th.

Juncos Racing is new to the IMSA SportsCar game, but the outfit currently campaigns in the Verizon IndyCar Series, as well as two other IndyCar-sanctioned series on the Mazda Road to Indy program: the Pro Mazda Championship, and the Indy Lights Championship. The last ten years have produced 58 wins and 9 championships for the team.

“Our entry into the top class of the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship represents a significant step forward for our Company and also bolsters the depth and technical acumen of our Teams,” says Team Owner Ricardo Juncos. “We are also excited and humbled by the partnership with Cadillac and look forward to representing the Cadillac brand in the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship.

“Cadillac has a proven history of winning and performance within IMSA and provides Juncos Racing with a championship caliber partner to begin its entry into DPi.”

Juncos Racing expects to take delivery of its new Cadillac DPi-V.R race car in early-November, and testing will begin the following month. The team is still finalizing its driver lineup for the 2019 IMSA WeatherTech season.

Juncos Racing could have one of five Cadillac prototype race cars on the grid in the 2019 IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship, representing the GM luxury brand alongside Wayne Taylor Racing, Spirit of Daytona Racing, and Action Express Racing, the latter of which campaigns two cars. Spirit of Daytona Racing has been forced to miss many of the races on this year’s calendar due to budgetary limitations, but the team hopes to race again at or before the 2018 season finale at Road Atlanta this October.
