24-Year-Old Has A Spectacular Crash In A Chevrolet Camaro

Last week, a 24-year-old male driver was arrested in Pearl, Mississippi for driving a Chevrolet Camaro without insurance, but that wasn’t his biggest blunder that day.

The man, one Erik Payton of Jackson, was involved in one of the most spectacular-looking crashes in recent memory. The whole affair was captured on the dash cam of one Clark Pennington, who happened to be stopped at the Airport Road intersection where Payton crashed. The footage shows Payton’s fast-traveling Camaro fail to make a turn and slide sideways into the Airport Road median, launching up the other side and ramming into a stopped white compact car before flipping over and impacting a bus.

The Camaro came to rest on its roof, and reportedly, Payton promptly exited the vehicle and began checking on the occupants of the other vehicles he struck.

“I heard tire squealing and I knew something was happening,” Pennington told local ABC/CBS-affiliate WLOX. “So out of my peripheral vision I could see the car coming across the median and flipping and going into the other vehicles just ahead of me.”

Pennington said he initially thought the speeding Chevrolet Camaro was going to hit him, but as soon as he saw it wouldn’t, he immediately dialed 9-1-1.

After the crash, three people were taken to the hospital: the driver of the school bus, and a mother and child that had been in the white compact car that Payton first hit. The condition of those people is not known, but there don’t appear to have been any fatalities, and thankfully, the school bus was not carrying children at the time of the accident.
