Feast your eyes on the very first real-world photos of the 2019 Silverado High Country as the range-topping truck took to the paved (and un-paved) roads of Wyoming during the media drive last week, attended by GM Authority.
Specifically, the three 2019 Silverado High Country models seen here are coated in Summit White, Silver Ice Metallic and Black (for the model towing the trailer).
The 2019 Silverado High Country is the highest trim level of the all-new Silverado 1500 and is highlighted by the following features:
- An exclusive front grille design with two-tone chrome and bronze finish
- Body-color accents (such as bumpers and mirror caps)
- Chrome assist steps from wheel to wheel (which can be upgraded to the power-retractable and rearward articulating steps)
- Power up/down tailgate as standard equipment
- Dual exhaust outlets integrated with the rear bumper
- 20-inch painted aluminum wheels with machined face and Light Argent pockets (RPO Code NZJ)
- Plus a bevy of standard features that are either optional or simply not available on other trims
The interior of this model is finished in Jet Black with wood accents. All 2019 Silverado High Country models feature leather-appointed seating. The rear seat includes a full-width bench with seatback storage on the left and right sides, a center fold out armrest with two cupholders and under-seat storage that runs the full cab width. The under-seat storage is accessible by lifting/folding the 60/40 folding bench seat.
Under the hood is the standard 5.3L V8 L84 engine making 355 horsepower and 383 pound-feet of torque. The motor is part of the second-generation EcoTec3 engine family and features Dynamic Fuel Management technology, which enables the engine to operate in 17 different patterns between 2 and 8 cylinders, depending on demand, to optimize power delivery and efficiency. It is paired with the enhanced 8-speed automatic transmission (RPO code MQE) that includes overdrive, tow/haul mode, Cruise Grade Braking and Powertrain Grade Braking. The powertrain also includes the G80 heavy-duty locking differential when the Z82 Trailer Package is ordered.
The 6.2L V8 L87 engine with Dynamic Fuel Management tech is optional. Making 420 horsepower and 460 pound-feet of torque, the motor is mated to the new 10-speed automatic transmission (RPO code MQB) with overdrive, tow/haul mode, Cruise Grade Braking and Powertrain Grade Braking.

I think the black high country with the 22’s is my favorite spec of all the gmc/Chevy models.
I honestly this may be my next truck in a couple years. Only thing I know it may sound picky holding me back is a panoramic roof. I love every other aspect of this truck
That wouldn’t hold me back, but I can understand where you’re coming from. Wait a year or two like you said and they will probably have it.
I just saw a trailer full of 19 siverados on i55 today so it wont be long before the dealers get them or perhaps some already have them.
The more I look at the interior on these trucks, the more I accept it.
The interior isn’t exactly outstanding, BUT I think it will age more gracefully than the RAM 1500’s interior.
The F150 has the ugliest interior in the segment, IMO. So no contest there.
I disagree, unfortunately I think the interior already looks dated with the very obvious “Place Different Interior Component or Cheap Looking Blanking Plate Here” assembly, especially the bottom of the stack. Plus don’t even bring up the awful looking integration of the dual glove boxes… I think the 2007-2013 work truck interiors had that design integrated better even if the handle was a little awkward to use.
To my eyes, the Silverado/Sierra interiors are the least inspired and eye-catching compared to both Ram and Ford. While we cannot say how well the interior will hold up in the future, the mixture of textures, colors, and materials used in the new Ram is very impressive and executed in a manner that is eye-pleasing and functional.
But, I will reserve final judgment until I can actually sit in one. Plus I will say the exterior of the new Silverado and Sierra are growing on me the more I look at them, especially in certain trim levels and colors.
I don’t like the front bumper and fender arrangement, the “air curtains”.. Don’t care much for the squinty eyed headlights or the weird fender protrusion into the grille but everything else about this truck looks first class. I hope the mid cycle re-fresh will fix some of the controversial design cues. I thought there was nothing wrong with the square jawed look of the ’14-’15.
Completely agree on all accounts. If they fix the bumper/fender air curtains (get rid of them), let the bumper go all the way around again and take the mutton chops fender up to a normal stopping point and also get rid of the fender going into the headlight/grill (looks ridiculous on the Tahoe/Suburban too) they’d have the best looking truck they’ve ever built.
Out of all the configurations though, the High Country IMO is the best looking. It really is a gorgeous truck. Even with the goofy front clip. Hopefully the mce will fix the front clip and interior.
This truck is sexy!!!!!!!! all Chevy needs is a ZR2 and an SS model 1500 silverado and that’s it.
The more I see the more I like this Truck. Except inside.
It would be even more outstanding with silver/black CHEVROLET on the back.
Too boxy design with too complicated front end (I cannot imagine how to clean mud from it). Interior is absolutely disaster – right now it is outdated and in near future it will be archaic museum on the wheels – cheap plastic everywhere, no sense for smart details like in RAM (huge display – even the smallest one is better then GM, comfort of luxury limo even in backseats, original design and elegant details, standard model is better looking than this High Country or GMC Sierra Denali etc.).
GM made new exterior and forget to change interior which is main problem. RAM is new king of trucks – modern, elegant and smart product for 21st. century. Chevy/GMC is only cash cow which looks like cheap Mexican crap in luxury car category price list.
The interior looks like where the LT trim level with optional leather should be. This doesn’t look like a 65K top level interior to my eyes unlike the 2019 Ram Laramie that we checked out last weekend that literally blew us away with reclining back seats, heated and A/C rear seats, loads of real wood trim and gorgeous padded trim and numerous rich colors to chose from. Then there is that huge screen!
Interior looks more like where the LT trim should be with optional leather. The top trim spec shown here doesn’t even compare to the new Ram Laramie’s interior with far richer surfaces, more real wood and leather and padded surfaces and that screen.
Looks like a f150 and ram mixed
I’m an f150 owner (2016), but have to say this is a beautiful truck. The front is not over-styled like its’ (IMO) GMC stable-mate. Seeing the “High Country” embossed into the grille chrome reminds me of my mid-70’s Chevy (Camper Special, Silverado pkg, steel blue/white two-tone, 350 4sp) that had the small engine i.d. emblem built into every grille. Mine was “350” but I always wished it said: “454”. :^)
We’re going to see a lot of these trucks on the road.
Moving on to the interior: Borderline over-styled. Maybe it’s the black color that’s causing the feeling for me. A few things jump out: The steering wheel is way overdone with the bright three separate sections on the bottom. I don’t mind a conventional shifter on the column, but what’s up with the one GM chose here? It looks like some kind of hunting club. Did they forget about it until it was too late and just said: “Throw anything on it from the parts-bin?” The center stack is way over-styled IMO. It looks like a big bug staring back at you. (or the back of any current Toyota SUV with the “Transformer/Robot” styling). An immediate improvement to the center stack would be to just make the A/C vents -square- and then draw a straight line across along the bottom of the screen all the way over to the passenger a/c vent. Put a nice conservative strip of genuine wood trim in the passenger panel with the dual glove-compartments. The climate control section is ok, but would look better as a square, and I count –32– buttons there and 4 knobs which probably have a push button feature in them too. Too much! This ultimate trim level should have automatic climate control anyway, (this truck’s MSRP has to be touching the $85K mark) with all the individual “custom” vent settings hidden away on the touch display panel. The entire passenger side panel with the doors is pretty bad too. Again: break it up with some genuine wood trim, hide the lower door inside the other one and square off the a/c vent. Over on the driver’s side: some kind of massive light panel with the six-angle vent. Why? My lights are all automatic except for the fogs and I don’t think I have ever touched the knob.
