The original Chevrolet Camaro 1LE is a rarity, but one has surfaced for sale. It’s a 1990 Camaro IROC-Z 1LE and it commands a hefty $49,900 price. That’s more than today’s 2018 Chevrolet Camaro SS 1LE, for comparison sake. The new car costs $44,495 after adding the $7,000 1LE package to the 1SS trimmed Camaro.
But this 1990 Camaro 1LE is really something. Up for sale on eBay, the car is one of 34 models produced in 1990 with the 1LE package. Back then, the package included an aluminum driveshaft and air conditioner delete to save weight, increased airflow with the fog lights removed and a reworked suspension. Powering the car is a 309 cubic-inch V8 engine married with a five-speed manual transmission.
Other options ordered for this particular 1LE include gray bucket seats, a performance axle ratio, electric rear window defogger, radio delete, and decal and strip package delete. Oh, and the car has just 1,412 miles after passing through four owners without a single accident on its CarFax report.
We think we’d have to choose the 1990 Camaro here. Not only are third-generation Camaros due for their time to shine, but an example so well kept is truly something.

Jay Leno should buy it.
What is left out here is while there were 34 built most were used up in show room stock racing for what they were built for. Even less were unmolested.
They also came less AC as it was not available.
This is what is essentially a unused factory race car.
This is the COPO of the 90’s
I prefer that 3rd gen styling to the current one. Maybe the next gen should pick up where the 3rd and 4th gens left off.
Better yet, how about a 7th gen Camaro that didn’t have any tired and played out retro nonsense and looked like a car from this century?
Considering every car up until the 5th gen wasn’t retro, it seems like retro is an admission that GM’s design staff is permanently restricted to make echos of past designs rather than coming up with anything new and exciting for this time period.
As an owner of an unmolested 1990 3rd Gen IROC 1LE, i am happy to see this article. Mine has a ….few…. more miles than the one listed.
Also, there were 62 1LEs made in 1990. 34 (305) manuals and 28 (350) automatics.
