Purists, avert your eyes. For anyone else, read and watch on.
Las Vegas company Renegade Hybrids offers a conversion kit that will allow owners of various Porsche models ( Boxster, Cayman, 944, 914, 996 or 997) to stuff a small-block V8 engine into the rear engine bay. With help from Westech Performance, a 383 cubic inch V8 now resides in this particular Porsche 911.
Included with the swap is a single four-barrel intake manifold, reverse-flow cooling, a radiator at the front, and an LS3 exhaust manifold to make 603 horsepower and 543 pound-feet of torque. As a refresher, this particular Porsche only weighs 2,490 pounds, so that’s quite a bit of go for the German sports car. And the entire engine conversion fits snuggly in the stock mounting points—no cutting required.
Sure, the Porsche 911 brings its own charm, but how can we pass up a small-block-swapped example? Well done, Renegade Hybrids and Westech. Well done.
