The National Corvette Museum has compiled a wish list of cars as it seeks to expand its collection to better tell the Chevrolet Corvette’s story.
The NCM relies on help from enthusiasts to source cars, though many supporters often donate cars to the museum as well. The Corvette sanctuary asked for help in finding a collection of cars or asked any owners that may consider donating a car to contact the museum’s curator. And the museum isn’t just looking for Corvettes.
But, it is the National Corvette Museum, after all. The NCM wants to complete its collection to show a car from every model year since its inception. The model years needed are:Â 1955, ’60, ’61, ’64, ’65, ’70, ’72, ’73, ’75, ’76, ’77, ’82, ’91, ’97, ’98, ’99, 2001, ’04, ’05, ’06, ’09, ’10, ’11, ’12, ’14, ’15, ’16, ’17, ’18, ’19.
The museum will also gladly accepted any experimental Corvette prototypes.
Aside from Corvettes, the NCM also seeks Cadillac XLR models, which was the only car ever produced alongside the Corvette in history. Further, the NCM would like to add any car that features a Corvette engine such as the Chevrolet Trailblazer SS, Pontiac GTO, Cadillac CTS-V and more.
On the rarer side of things, the wishlist also includes a Corvette-powered Iso Grifo or Iso Rivolta and Corvette-powered Bizzarrini.
Finally, the museum clumped a handful of cars into a “pioneer” and “inspiration” category. They include pre-Corvette sports cars such as Glaspar G2, Lancer, Woodill Wildfire, Kaiser-Darrin, Mercer Raceabout, Stutz Bearcat, Nash-Healey, Crosley HotShot, and more. The Dodge Viper and Ford Thunderbird will also be accepted.

I have no problem with non-Corvettes in the NCM. The Corvette as a story would be too short if it didn’t include all the cars that influenced, and where influenced by, the Corvette throughout history. I wouldn’t even object to having a DBR9 on loan sitting alongside a C6R; there’s a story in those two alone!
Actually the Corvette has a very long and detailed story. But the others should be included as the all contributed in some way to how the Corvette was developed and deployed.
The Fiero should also be included at the original concept was really a V6 Vette that was rejected in the mid 70’s according to Dave Mclelland Vett hall of fame.
