Leroy The Corvette Kart Hops In The Wind Tunnel: Video

When building something as sweet as a Corvette kart, trivial things like the aerodynamics are just ignored. Why pay attention to that when there’s a twin turbo V8 engine to overboost and there’s no sheetmetal for the air to flow around, anyway.

But just for kicks, YouTuber Cleetus McFarland felt it was time to see how badly the aerodynamics were on Leroy, his ‘Vette kart. McFarland took Leroy and a completely stock C5 Corvette for comparison to Mooresville, North Carolina, which is home to the A2 wind tunnel.

Watching them run the wind stream tests and crank the numbers on his exo-skeleton build is really quite astonishing. Once you see and hear the results for yourself you may think the same. And just to give some context, the Corvette kart has apparently hit a 170 mph quarter mile in its past. The results from the wind test showed that with a top speed like that, at least 545 hp must be produced just to overcome the air force.

Check out the video above to see how truly bad the aerodynamics are on Leroy, the ‘Vette kart.
