Dodge Challenger Scat Pack 1320 Is The Affordable Drag Racer, Accessories Required For Camaro

Dodge has taken aim at the muscle car crowd yet again and crafted the Challenger Scat Pack 1320, which takes its name from the quarter mile’s distance in feet. With the new model, Dodge says the Challenger will clock an 11.7-second time at 115 mph straight from the factory.

Rivals like the 2019 Chevrolet Camaro SS require upgrades and accessories to dip into the 11-second range.

The Challenger Scat Pack 1320 boasts the R/T’s 6.4-liter Hemi V8 engine good for 485 horsepower and 475 lb-ft of torque, but drag-strip upgrades on hand include Line Lock, a TransBrake, Torque Reserve, an SRT-tuned adaptive suspension system with Drag Mode, and heavy-duty 41-spline half shafts. Power is sent to a TorqueFlite eight-speed automatic transmission. And just a driver’s seat is in place to keep weight down; front and rear passenger seats will be $1 options.

Chevrolet hasn’t tackled the typical muscle car crowd like the guys and gals at Dodge have. Instead, the Camaro team has focused on track prowess with the 2018 Camaro ZL1 1LE and regular 1LE models. The brand has pegged the 2018 Camaro ZL1 as its do-it-all sports car that can focus on the drag strip and road course. However, Chevy did begin a Camaro drag development program to study aftermarket parts, especially for drag racers.

Perhaps Chevrolet will one day offer a purpose-built Camaro drag racer for the track and street. In the meantime, the Dodge Challenger Scat Pack 1320 will start at $44,585 and go on sale in early 2019.

  1. It is odd that GM has a single minded view of performance cars. I love cars aimed for a road course but the vast majority of owners will never take any Camaro, Corvette, CTS / ATS V’s to a road course. I live in Chicago and the nearest road course is an hour away in Joliet, after that its Blackhawk an hour and a half or Road America 2 hours away. It’s great marketing to say X car went around the Nurburgring faster than a Viper, BMW, Mercedes, Porsche ect but GM is missing out. Also for the love of God, I’d have a ZL1 already if they gave me the option to have the regular SS seats instead of the miserably uncomfortable Recaro’s

    1. I agree with you on everything except the Recaro seats. I love them. About the only way these seats are deemed uncomfortable is if your physique resembles that of Emmanuel Yarborough.
