2019 Camaro Base (LS/LT): First Real-World Pictures In Silver Ice Metallic

Behold the very first photos of the refreshed 2019 Camaro base.

Caught undergoing final validation testing in metro Detroit, the vehicle seen here is coated in Silver Ice Metallic and is either the base LS or mid-level LT trim level of the updated 2019 Camaro. We are leaning more towards thinking that this is the LT trim, since the LS trim of the facelifted 2019 Camaro will go on sale later on in the model year (fourth quarter).

Making this sighting particularly noteworthy is that the LS and LT trim levels of the 2019 Camaro have not been seen before (without the LT 1LE package).

2019 Camaro Base – Front End

These photos finally show how the updated LS/LT sixth gen Camaro looks without the RS or 1LE packages, which we have seen once before. The front end features a new design specific to the LS and LT models, consisting of a new fascia, grille, dual-element headlamps, LED signature lighting and hood. By comparison, models with the RS package feature an LED light bar, turn signals and daytime running lamps, while SS models add a pair of horizontal LED light strips below the primary headlights.

Whether you love or hate the updated design of the 2019 Camaro, there is no denying that it is instantly recognizable as being different from the 2016-2018 Camaro. The upper part of the front fascia houses the Chevrolet logo and new headlights, while the lower fascia has a new shape, with vertical inlets at the corners and a “reverse-smile” opening in the middle.

Additionally, the tester seen here is wearing a set of 18-inch Silver Painted aluminum wheels that appear to be new for the 2018 model year (RPO code SGE).

2019 Camaro Base – Rear End

The rear end features a new fascia, defined by sculpted LED taillamps with red lenses. The dual exhaust, with single outlets on both sides of the vehicle, remains the same as on the 2016-2018 models.

Meanwhile, the “fin” communications antenna on the roof is black, which is standard on all LS and LT model. Ordering the RS package paints the fin in the vehicle’s primary body color.

Under The Hood

For the 2019 model year, the Camaro LS and LT carry over the 2.0L Turbo I-4 LTG engine as standard and 3.6L V-6 LGX engine as optional. Both motors are mated either to a six-speed manual transmission or the eight-speed automatic transmission. The new GM 10-speed auto is reserved for the SS and ZL1 models.

The naturally-aspirated 6.2L V-8 LT1 engine remains standard in the Camaro SS, while the supercharged 6.2L V-8 LT4 is included in the Camaro ZL1. Both the 2019 Camaro SS and Camaro ZL1 offer a six-speed manual transmission as standard, and the new GM 10-speed transmission as an option. The new 10-speed unit replaces the 8-speed auto for the Camaro SS for the 2019 model year.

Pricing & Availability

2019 Camaro pricing has not yet been announced, but is expected to remain similar to the 2018 model, which is priced to start at $26,900 for the Camaro Coupe LS.

The majority of the 2019 Camaro range will become available in the third quarter of 2018, while the LS model will launch in the fourth quarter.

    1. I think it looks good. But even then, I am not the target market for the LS/LT… the SS and ZL1 interest me much more.

  2. No V8 option?! That’s not a Camaro! They are destroying everything. The new blazer doesnt have true 4×4 and looks like a jeep. They arent doing to well with this CEO

    1. They are offering v8s. They are offering the LT1 and LT4 as options, which one is naturally aspirated the other is supercharged.

    2. Dude common.

First of all This is the LS and LT trims that are not offered with the eights. Those are SS and ZL1 are for

Second GM under “this CEO” have posted record earnings despite leaving half of the globe.

      Try again?

  3. At least it looks better than the SS models.

I’ve seen a blue SS and an orange SS on the road thus far. They both looked *worse* than the pictures.

The blue one had the illuminated bowtie, too, which only highlighted the main problem with the front end. On the orange car, the LED DRLs looked like a light mustache.

  4. Thanks GM , the grinning idiot wide narrow grill has opened up curving down more in the middle , looks much better . Also the hood line and the side window lines now match up . Except for the hump in the middle of the hood , the sight lines forward for the driver are improved . Almost has a balanced look to it , congrats !!

  5. I don’t mind the looks. And those wheels seem better suited than the over sized 20″ that come on the RS package that make the ride too hard and bumpy. Wish they made the 10 speed available like Ford did for the Mustang and that the rear mounted antenna was painted body color. How cheap!

  6. I’m ok – not jacked about the 16-18 Camaro. Hate the 19 ss (don’t care for the Zl1 either)

This however, I think I like. The RS 1le will be the best looking of all Camaros.

  7. I’m 90% sure those wheels are from a 2015 base Camaro.

  8. The front end looks very good. Color match bumper looks both new and retro.

It’s a clean look, and maybe the SS should have a similar look with just some black edge trim around a color match bumper.

I just think too much of a blackish grill/ bumper area on the SS reminds me of some of Toyota’s overdone front end treatments.

The face of a vehicle is very important. It should be smiling at us, and blend in with the rest of the lines.

  10. Hey, thats a good looking 2019 Camaro! Cant say the same for the SS though. I’d like GM to consider a small block 5.3L V8 for the LT trim line. Bring back Camaro to being a pony car instead of an expensive GT Sports Coupe.

    Looks Good!

  12. Weird it was in Silver Ice Metallic since they don’t even show that as a ’19 color.

I have seen one spy shot of the SS in the Silver Ice too.

    1. Silver ice metallic *is* a color for the 2019 Camaro… it didn’t go anywhere.

  13. I like the look. It has a nice smile, but yet sinister eyes looking at you.
