Back in April, Chevrolet announced the 2019 Cruze refresh, releasing just a couple of photos along with a handful of details about the updated compact car range. The information didn’t really enable us to understand the extent of the updates. But we’ve managed to get our hands on the complete order guide for the updated model, and have compiled a list of exactly what’s for the 2019 Cruze.
What Chevy Has Told Us
In its initial announcement in April, Chevy told us of the following updates to the 2019 Cruze:
- New Chevrolet Infotainment 3 running on a standard 7-inch diagonal color touchscreen radio
- Remote start and automatic climate control become standard on LT and Premier models
- New wheel designs
- Black window moldings, bowtie emblems and 17-inch (available 18-inch) machined wheels for the RS package
- New available Umber interior color
But there’s much more than that to the Cruze refresh / Cruze facelift.
2019 Cruze Exterior Changes
On the outside, the 2019 Cruze gets a rather modest update to the front fascia.
What’s more, two colors are deleted while two new ones are added:
Deleted colors:
- Crush
- Arctic Blue Metallic
New colors:
- Pacific Blue Metallic
- Oakwood Metallic
Out back, the Premier models get new LED tail lamps, and new fill in the wheel wells – one set of 16-inch units, two sets of 17-inch units, and an additional set of 18-inch wheels.
And that’s where the good news ends, because the remainder of the exterior changes involve deleting the following four features:
- Power-adjustable and heated outside mirrors with integrated turn signals. These mirrors were standard and available only on the Premier trim levels of the 2018 Cruze. That leaves the 2019 Cruze with the following two mirror types, depending on trim level:
- Power-adjustable and manual-folding
- Heated, power-adjustable and manual-folding
- Chrome strip in door handles, meaning that the 2019 Cruze will be available exclusively with body-color door handles
- Bright side window surround moldings, meaning that the 2019 Cruze will be available only with the bright beltline, rather than the entire window surround
- Ground Effects Package, which is an LPO-level item installed by dealers
2019 Cruze Interior Changes
Inside, the 2019 Cruze does get the new Chevrolet MyLink radios with the new Chevrolet Infotainment 3 (third-generation) system mated to a seven-inch diagonal color touchscreen.
Various features get added as standard equipment, including:
- Remote vehicle start is now standard on LT models
- Floor console with armrest is now standard on all models
- Two USB ports and auxiliary jack is now standard on all models
- Automatic (single zone) climate control is now standard on LT and Premier models
There’s also a new LPO-level (dealer-installed) accessory – a powered Universal Tablet Holder. How said holder works is not yet clear.
Moving on to less positive news: leather is eliminated entirely from the 2019 Cruze. In its place is now leatherette. Yup, you read that correctly: there is no more leather seating on the Cruze, even as an option.
And then comes the much longer list of deleted items:
- Ambient interior lighting, which was previously available as part of the Sunroof Package
- Dual rear reading lights
- Front passenger seat-back map pocket, which was previously standard and only available on the Premier trim level
Also, the rear carpeted floor mats become standard only on LT, Diesel and Premier models. Previously, every Cruze trim level except for the base L had carpeted front and rear floor mats as standard equipment.
There are also new interior color combinations, as follows:
- Addition of Jet Black/ Galvanized Cloth seating for LS, LT and Diesel models
- Addition of Jet Black/ Galvanized Leatherette seating for Diesel with PCM, and Premier models
- Addition of Jet Black/ Umber Leatherette seating for Diesel with PCM, and Premier
And finally, there is a slight change to the Keyless Open feature: for the 2019 model year, the keyless open feature now unlocks only the front doors, while it previously unlocked all four doors. The system, however, can still be programmed to unlock all doors at once with one press or with two presses of the front door buttons.
2019 Cruze Powertrain Changes
On the powertrain front, the 2019 Cruze doesn’t see changes to the engines, but does see the deletion of the 6-speed manual transmission. But the 2019 Cruze also adds one feature that many have been asking for since the launch of the second-gen model: an override to the engine’s start/stop system.

2019 Cruze Safety Changes

Both are part of the Driver Confidence II Package, which is available on the Premier trim level and requires the Driver Confidence (1) package, which includes:
- Rear Park Assist
- Side Blind Zone Alert with Lane Change Alert
- Rear Cross Traffic Alert
2019 Cruze Package-Level Changes
Rounding out the changes to the 2019 Cruze are the packages. We’ve combed through the various package changes so you don’t have to, and they are as follows:

And that’s all that’s new for the 2019 Chevy Cruze. Tell us what you think of the refresh and changes in the comments.
About Chevrolet Cruze
The Chevrolet Cruze is a range of compact passenger cars currently consisting of a four-door sedan and five-door hatchback. It slots above the Chevrolet Spark city car and subcompact Chevrolet Sonic and below the midsize Chevrolet Malibu and full-size Chevrolet Impala.
The current model was introduced for the 2016 model year and represents the second generation of the Cruze nameplate. It rides on the GM D2 platform shared with the second-generation Chevrolet Volt and Buick Verano (in China).
Compared to its first-generation predecessor, the second-gen model is an all-new vehicle that is slightly larger, sleeker and more modern. The first-generation Cruze family was produced in sedan, hatchback, and wagon body styles, but only the sedan was available in North America. By comparison, the second-generation model is available as a sedan and hatchback. Though a wagon variant of the second-gen model was never produced, the hatchback model was made available in North America.
For the North American markets, the Chevrolet Cruze sedan is built by GM USA at the GM Lordstown factory while the Cruze hatchback is assembled by GM Mexico at the GM Ramos Arizpe factory.

So is the GM game plan to offer less for more. They should be offering more for less. I guess it’s more important to them to brag about profit per vehicle than getting new customers or keeping the old ones.
Totally agree I won’t be upgrading to the new Cruze , I’ll keep my 1st gen .
Great, when my lease runs out next year I’ll have to move up to a Malibu or switch to an import just to have the same features I already have in my ’17 Premier. What a joke. Oh well, at least you can get a hybrid Malibu.
What color is Oakwood Metallic?
Apparently yet another bland Earth tone.
The changes to the 2019 are not worthy of trading up We have a 2017 Hatchback Premier with real leather interior 18 inch wheels GM is making a big mistake cutting cornors on a really nice car. Hello KIA & Hyundai
Same f-ing bull crap engines. Count me OUT!
What engine did you expect in this?
Wow one of the cool things about this car was you could get a manual transmission. Not anymore, come on GM!
The sun and sound package is available, the sunroof didn’t go away just a different package.
Very few people buying
I did my part and bought one. Oh well
Congrats to you and the other 8 folks that did, and shame on all the others that just bitch about manuals but never buy one anyway……
My biggest complaint was that I could not get a manual transmission and a sunroof. They seem to have taken that complaint away. Now, I can’t get either.
The sun and sound package is available, the sunroof didn’t go away just a different package.
it truly is an end to an era that extended beyond 80 years.. GM the leader is now a follower. It looks like a Toyota! never thought i would live to see this.
None of these changes really matter to customers but they help save money to keep the car in the segment, or they could pull out completely and then we would all think that is a mistake.
I miss the “old days” when exterior refreshes were significant. Cruze photos well but is bland when compared to Civic and Mazda 3. Even Dart had a more solid, less cheap look.
GM should consider a Cruze Sportback. Chevy should make LED lighting standard. Safety options standard, as well. Volt should be folded into Cruze and sold as an extreme hybrid like Clarity.
I’m tired on Chevrolet being dumbed down for Buick even in non compete segments. Chevy must win back the coasts. To do so The Bowtie must become a better value than Corolla. GM must elevate Chevrolet so that it can avoid a Dodge and Chrysler-like fate.
1. There are Chevys EVERYWHERE in California (man I wish people here would stop spreading that myth)
2. Significant exterior refreshes aren’t every year but every few years
3. There’s bland stylish (Cruze) and daring incoherent (Civic). The thing about style is never making parts of the car look WOW and other parts NOPE. People sneer at my wife’s Nissan Cube but it works because the entire exterior and interior are designed the same way. You don’t have to like it but you have to admit the achieved what they were going for. The Civic? It’s a hot dog (bland) with hot sauce on each end. A mess.
4. Agree that safety standards should be standard. Isn’t Mary Barra talking about a Zero Accident strategy at GM? That’s her, right?
5. Volty Cruze. Love it. Like a Volty Trax.
6. Chevy isn’t being dumbed down for Buick. That’s like saying OldNavy is being dumbed down for Gap. Chevy is trying to be the cheapest entry point possible to a GM car. In our status driven (I got a $1000 iPhone!) culture Chevy is basically a giant bait and switch operation.
I agree wholeheartedly… The problem is, GM will never elevate Chevrolet. At least not enough to compete with the likes of Ford, Toyota, Kia and the rest. It would step on the toes of Buick and GMC. GM’s two darlings. GM only takes the glass ceiling off of Chevrolet for race cars period. Corvette/Camaro, anything having to do with V8 racing. That’s it.
So what happens when the V8 engine eventually becomes obsolete? Chevrolet will literally have nothing to offer that’s better than their competition. Unless Chevrolet magically becomes their own independent Chevrolet Motor Company (or even Motor Division) and not some fake marketing brand of GM like they’ve become, they very well may go the way of Dodge.
It just dosen’t make sense to striffle you best selling brand to satisfy Buick Executives whose Brand is barely hanging on in the USA. Instead of taking away they should be adding features and equipment to make all Chevys the leader in their class. If they want to satisfy Buick Executives then move Buick up scale to the leader in it’s class. If the are afraid of stepping on Cadillacs toes then move them upscale. The GM motto for a few dollars more we can give you a few less choices.
Dual rear reading lights optional?? What kind of car is this!?!
The automatic tampon removers are not leather covered in the LT models!!!!……..Oh my……
Cool GM, what is this iteration? an old GM habits or just want Honda and Toyota sell more of civics and corollas? Come on GM, a gorgeous car and well equipped isn’t possible????????????????????
What everyone needs to understand is that a company can only spend so much on building these cars to keep them under a certain price. Yeah other companies may offer more standard features but that means they have to cut corners somewhere else in order to keep the price down which is usually quality. It’s a balancing act. Not a lot of equipment got deleted in the Cruze just packages rearranged (Read the order guide yourself). As far as the manual transmission going away yeah it sucks but less and less people know how to drive them. The technology in automatics are so good now that they are becoming more fuel efficient and out perform manuals. It’s supply and demand….. it’s what runs the world.
Looks like crappy Old GM is making a comeback. First with letting Johan go, as we all know GM wouldn’t allow him the proper freedom to bring Cadillac back from the now low rung Luxury to the truely Tier One Luxury like he wanted. Now this. De-content every vehicle. I mean I cannot believe what I am about to type…The New Corolla will completely destroy this Cruze. It’s not even on the same playing field with the likes of Civic, Elantra, Forte, Mazda 3, what else am I missing? GM gave up…Period!!!
This is almost the most sensible post on this thread……..
Does your keeper know that you have escaped?
Bankruptcy #2 coming. Same old GM nothing ever changes. As soon as truck and suv sales die then they will be up the creek without a pattle. Everyone on the “board” and management team must go NOW. Heck Mark Reuss can’t even drive a car without wrecking it and he is the head of product development.
GM brings a whole new meaning to squeezing the the Buffalo on the nickel so hard that all the crap come out of it.
I’m pretty sure they at least know how to spell “paddle” at GM…….just saying though, you may still want to send them your resume, just sharpen up the crayon and wipe off some of the poo and mail it in……
Removing leather entirely has basically eliminated this vehicle from a potential replacement for my wife’s 2014 Cruze Diesel, if we needed one.
Granted, most seats feature a mix of leather and vinyl (leather seating surface, vinyl sides, back and headrests), but going entirely leatherette is a deal breaker.
Good news, leather diesel Malibu is coming soon from what I’ve read, or you can just get leatherette and live with it.
What a Snuze… Can we get back both a descent equip Cruze with a performance option and a large/affordable rwd Impala and Monte Carlo again?. Eventually truck/Suv buyers will go to imports because they first affordable cars were Imports and stuck with that brand.
Disappointing, I’m guessing with all the cuts a new model will be here soon?
I think, unfortunately, the more likely scenario is no model at all.
or 2019, Ford is simplifying trim choices for the Fusion in an effort to reduce complexity. However, since the strategy involves bundling more equipment than before, MSRPs are going up.
The 2019 Fusion S will start at $23,735 including destination, $645 more than the previous year. The more popular SE is up $650 and will now start at $25,015. Higher trims are seeing more drastic changes.
The updated Fusion Titanium is listed at $35,235, which equates to a $3,870 price increase. The range-topping Fusion Sport will be subject to the largest increase of $6,190 and will start at $40,910.
The Hybrid will now have a base price of $28,450, up from $26,265. Here, the difference lies in the fact that the entry-level S trim has been discontinued and the least-expensive style is now the SE. Having said that, the SE is still $1,235 more expensive than the previous year’s MSRP of $27,215.
The Energi Plug-in, which benefits from a boost in EV range to 25 miles, now starts at $37,490. This is largely due to the fact that the car is now only available in a single Titanium trim. Compared to the previous year, the MSRP for this style is up $2,215. As a result, the car will be just $5 less than the Chevy Bolt EV.
The biggest difference for the Fusion compared to the previous year is the addition of Ford Co-Pilot360. The new system includes automatic emergency braking, blind spot warning, lane-keeping, a backup camera and auto high beams.
For a little over $600, entry-level styles could be a compelling value. Aside from not having to add pricey safety packages, there’s also the fact that the 1.5-liter turbo engine (previously a $400 upgrade), is now standard in the SE.
Yes, higher trims may seem more expensive, but they also come with a lot more gear.
For example, the 2019 Fusion Titanium starts at $35,235, but now comes with a moonroof, adaptive cruise, nav and 19-inch wheels. A similarly-equipped 2018 Fusion carries a list price approaching $37,000.
Similarly, the new Fusion Sport starts at $40,910 but will come with features that used to drive the price over $43,000. These include nav, moonroof, parking sensors, cooled seats, adaptive cruise, rear inflatable seat belts and more.
At the lower end, the Fusion will undercut the Toyota Camry LE with Blind Spot Monitor, which has an MSRP of $26,145. It’s also less than the $28,365 Accord EX, the least-expensive Accord that has blind spot monitoring.
This is what Ford does compared to what Chevy does. Who do you think made the correct choice?
Well Ford made a dumb choice eliminating the Fusion and it’s other sedans. That’s for certain.
GM has a very deeply ingrained bean counter culture that champions de-contenting, while ramping up MSRPs into the stratosphere. You can guarantee all these deletions will be coupled with increased prices. Honda and Toyota must never stop laughing at GM’s absolutely laughable attempt at “competing”. I love my 2017 Cruze Premier Hatch, but it will be my last GM product. When my lease is up, I’m buying a used Golf.
Wow they sure managed to take the knife to the Premier model. So from what it looks like it has lost the following things-
Full window surround chrome molding
Chrome door handle insert
Leather seats
One rear map pocket
Exterior mirror turn signal indicators
Ambient interior lighting
Dual rear seat reading lamps
Also no more heated rear seats or Bose radio option, colored driver information center, wireless charging, 110 V power outlet, auto day/night mirror and lighted visor mirrors. Does this mean some of these items will be offered as separate options? It’s showing that all the moonroof packages with navigation or color DIC are gone so I would assume that a stand alone moonroof will still be offered.
Basically Chevy just handed Toyota and Honda the keys to more compact car sales.

New Cruze LS hatch, I never noticed that there was no LS hatch before…..looks like thats whats going to slide into replace the Sonic hatch, along with a cheaper base sedan, I can see the strategy, if one of the smaller Chevrolet cars is going to survive out of the Sonic/Cruze, I would bet it would be the Cruze, but you would probably want it to be able to stretch down into the Sonic price range.
Guys!!! Read the order guide (fully) yourself before you go making assumptions about what’s missing…. a lot is just deleting and adding packages. Only a few features went away. And a lot is lining up with the competition
But why do that when its easier to throw a full on temper tantrum online? OH MY GOD THE CHROME DOOR HANDLE SURROUNDS ARE NO LONGER STANDARD ON THE PREMIER LTZ WITH THE LEATHER COVERED VALVE STEMS!!!!!! ITS ALL OVER BANKRUPTCY IS COMING TOMORROW….BURN DOWN THE REN CEN!!!!!!
I swear, when all the girls here get on their cycle…..its insufferable……..
Yeah, I often wonder why a site devoted to GM products, presumably catering to fans (and not GM haters), spawns so much negativity. “Panoramic roof not available on the silverado high country, time to buy Toyota.” It gets old and nobody here cares what you buy.
Just drive one and see. Too many keyboard warriors here .
The dynamics that the Holden guys developed for the AUS/NZ model are outstanding. Maybe the Americans are sh!t at doing driving dynamics – can’t think beyond straight lines, driving round in circles to the left and light-to-light drags (Really??).
This model is streets ahead of the old Korean Cruze.
One more time: Drive it first before you put fingers to keyboard.
And still no adaptive cruise control. Even in the 2019 Buick Encore – no adaptive cruise. Why is GM so stingy about this feature? I would like to consider their cars, but when you can get adaptive cruise in a sub-$20,000 Toyota or Honda, why bother with GM?
