The 2018 Chevrolet Equinox has landed in South Korea. The Investor reported that GM Korea launched the Equinox earlier this month to help boost sales in the market. The crossover replaces the original Chevrolet Captiva.
According to GM Korea, the Equinox is also one of 15 new or updated models coming to market over the next five years to help further bolster sales in the region GM Korea most recently faced bankruptcy, but the state government, local union and General Motors agreed to concessions and a final bailout to keep the unit afloat.
Per the report, the only engine currently offered is the 2.0-liter LUZ turbo-diesel engine paired with a six-speed automatic transmission. Front-wheel drive will be standard, but all-wheel drive is optional for the market.
The article is not clear explaining if the Equinox will be exported from the North American plants to South Korea, or if GM Korea will assemble the Equinox locally, as the Captiva was. BTW, many U.S. citizens have never seen or even heard/read of the Chevy Captiva.
Probably be the Mexico plant, like it is for the Australasian models.
If they sell enough of them they might open up an assembly line in one of the remaining Korean GM plants.
Mexico is part of North America.
Did you make a mistake on the engine size? I thought the equinix had a 1.6 L turbo diesel in it.
