Last week, Corvette Racing driver Oliver Gavin posted to Facebook and teased something coming. We incorrectly guessed Gavin would be piloting a 2019 C7 Corvette ZR1 while lapping the Nürburgring for an official time.
Instead, Gavin was teasing this stunt: 2019 Corvette Z06 versus a wingsuit skydiver. It’s a competition of man against machine, and the first one to the bottom of the mountain wins. The daredevil skydiver is Jokke Sommer, a professional skydiver and base jumper. He knows a thing or two about racing through the air at dangerous speeds.
The entire race takes place in Switzerland at a mountainous region called Klausen Pass. In the process, the winding road takes Gavin through nearly 4.5 miles of road and 14 hairpin corners. The skydiver has one direction: down the mountain pass.
We won’t spoil the outcome so have a look at the stunt in the video right up above. Meanwhile, we’re still waiting to see just how quick the Corvette ZR1 is around the Nürburgring…
