New Spy Shots Show 2020 GMC Sierra Denali HD Regular Cab: Photo Gallery

Feast your eyes on the latest spy shots of the upcoming 2020 GMC Sierra HD. The upcoming HD beast has been spied undergoing testing before, but not in this particular configuration – as the prototype seen here appears to be a Regular Cab in Denali trimmings.

Those familiar with GMC’s lineup will have already tilted their head in slight skepticism after reading that, since the current Sierra HD is only available as a Crew Cab in either single or dual rear wheel configurations. But apparently, GM wants to print even more money from its “Money Machine” GMC brand by extending the Denali trim level to the Regular Cab configuration of the future Sierra HD.

From what we can see on this heavily-camouflaged prototype, the 2020 GMC Sierra Denali 2500HD will follow the same formula as the recently-revealed 2019 Sierra Denali 1500, with a huge chrome grille, unique wheels, and unique interior features and equipment. The tell-tale sign that we’re looking at a Denali model is the embroidered “Denali” inscription on the head rests.

Like the new Sierra 1500, the 2020 GMC Sierra will utilize a mixed-material construction consisting of aluminum and steel. The CarbonPro box and MultiPro tailgate are also likely to show up on the Heavy Duty 2500 and 3500 models.

The 6.6L Duramax L5P diesel engine mated to the Allison 1000 Transmission is expected to carry over, but something tells us that the base 6.0L L96 Vortec V-8 gasoline engine (and its 6.0L LC8 gaseous variant) will be replaced by all-new units.

Expect the new 2020 GMC Sierra HD to debut sometime in early 2019, and launch in later on in the year.

  1. If that’s true it would also mean a Regular Cab with the 6.2L!

    1. HD trucks don’t use the 6.2. Currently just the 6.0 L96 gas and L5P Duramax. Nobody knows what gas engine the 2020 truck will get.

  2. A Hybrid Powertrain is also proposed for the Sierra portfolio, but will more than likely be combined with the 5.3 Liter engine more so than the ladder options, despite that, this truck even with the cover up already looks pretty solid, I’m already proposing to get the 2019 SLT by May of next year, might rethink my option for this 2020 HD model once I see the reveal, like the Silverado HD teaser photo, we can calculate the Sierra HD may come with a different front-facisa that it’s 1500 sibling.

  3. It looks like it has the old torsion bar suspension

  4. Ho, Hum. A pickup is just a massive vehicle with a huge billboard on the front.

  5. Judging by the exhaust pipe, I’ll bet this one has a gas engine. I also have a hunch that it is neither the 6.0 or 6.2.

Regular cab Denali is a great idea, I can see upscale contractors buying these. While they are at it, GMC ought to do a limited production Denali version of the new Silverado 6500. Sell it as a premium motor home chassis/5th. wheel toter.
