Here’s What’s New For The 2019 Chevy Suburban

The Chevrolet Suburban is Chevy’s biggest and most expensive utility, and it remains the best-selling vehicle in its segment by a far margin. For the 2019 model year, which represents the fifth model year of the current, 11th-generation model that launched for the 2015 model year, the Suburban gets a few notable changes and updates. Here’s what’s new for the 2019 Chevy Suburban.

On the outside, the 2019 Suburban does away with two colors while adding one new one:

Deleted Colors

  • Havana Metallic (deleted mid-2018 model year)
  • Tungsten Metallic

New Colors

  • Shadow Gray Metallic

There’s also a new design for the Premier badge on the tailgate. The new badge is new for all Premier-level Chevys for the 2019 model year.

Arguably the biggest change, however, is the introduction of the Suburban RST Performance Package as an option on the Premier (1LZ) trim level. Unlike the Suburban RST package, which is limited to visual enhancements, the RST Performance Package includes actual (you guessed it!) performance enhancements, including:

The last change is the expanded availability of the LPO-level (dealer-installed) rear fascia closeout feature, which is now available with the following exterior colors:

  • Silver Ice Metallic
  • Summit White
  • Black
  • Iridescent Pearl Tricoat
  • Shadow Gray Metallic

For the 2018 model year, the feature was only available in conjunction with the following colors:

  • Silver Ice Metallic
  • Summit White
  • Black
  • Iridescent Pearl Tricoat

And lest we forget, the 2019 Suburban 3500HD Fleet model sees the same color changes as the regular Suburban:

Deleted Colors

  • Havana Metallic (deleted mid-2018 model year)
  • Tungsten Metallic

New Colors

  • Shadow Gray Metallic

The 2019 Suburban represents the fifth production year of the 11th-generation Suburban, which is expected to be the last model year of the current model. Chevrolet is expected to replace the present model with an all-new, future Chevy Suburban for the 2020 model year. The next-gen model is expected to share the T1 platform introduced by the all-new 2019 Silverado 1500, while delivering notable improvements such as lighter weight and more high-end technology.

About Chevy Suburban

The Chevrolet Suburban is a full-size Sport Utility Vehicle (SUV). It is currently Chevrolet’s biggest SUV, slotting above the regular-length and also full-size Chevrolet Tahoe. Essentially, the Suburban is the extended-length Tahoe.

The current model was introduced for the 2015 model year and represents the 11th generation of the Suburban nameplate. The model rides on the GMT-K2 platform shared with the Chevrolet Silverado, Chevrolet Suburban, GMC Sierra, GMC Yukon and Yukon XL as well as the Cadillac Escalade and Escalade ESV.

The 2018 Chevy Suburban represents the fourth model year of the eleventh-generation Suburban. The vehicle remains highly competitive in its segment and the 2018 model year brings various improvements, most notably the Suburban RST (Rally Sport Truck) appearance package.

The 219 Chevy Suburban represents the 11th generation Suburban, and offers up a new exterior color, a new Premier badge on the tailgate, and new color availability for the Suburban RST as well as the introduction of the Suburban RST Performance Package.

The Chevrolet Suburban is built at the GM Arlington factory in Texas operated by GM USA.

  1. I really like those wheels on the non-RST Suburban (the one indoors, presumably at a show). From the hip, they look like they have some ZL1 characteristics to them. They aren’t showing as an option for 2018, neither RPO nor LPO. Does anyone have any info, details, etc.?

  2. Yippee, another shade of grey. GM has more dull grey and earth tone colors than anyone in the industry.
