Hear The Mid-Engine Corvette Exhaust During Acceleration: Video

It’s been a great week for news about the upcoming mid-engine Corvette: first we got the scoop on the design of the rear end and then we brought you the exact tire sizes of the upcoming sports car. But it gets even better, as we now have a high-quality video and audio of the mid-engine super car undergoing testing, allowing us to hear the mid-engine Corvette’s exhaust note as it sits waiting for a stop light and during acceleration.

The mechanical sounds coming from the prototype sound like a naturally-aspirated V-8, indicating that a competent GM small-block V-8 is sitting under the engine cover behind the cockpit. That said, the model seen here is the “base” variant, and higher-performance versions of the vehicle are expected to sport different engines, likely with forced induction. Those models will likely sound very different.

  2. Sounds very automatic! Which I love! Faster performance numbers are all that matters!

  3. It sounds like a healthy amount of power.

On another note (no pun intended lol)…
It’s great to read about the new 2.7 liter turbo motor.
I’d love to see GM expand the application of this motor to other products. Especially in the XT4, the equinox and the terrain. Another possible application would be in an all-wheel drive version of the Malibu.
GM needs to expand the use of 3.0L twin turbo engines into other products such as the XT5 and a future Blazer model.

  5. It’s either a v6 or a flat plane V8 under that hood. So it seems GM is looking to go completely unconventional with this car.

  6. You’ve got to love that low snarling sound.. it’s like a beast that wants to find some where to break out and really put the C8 Corvette through it’s paces.

  7. Dear lord, the car hasn’t even come out yet and it’s been spied so many times I already have mid engine corvette fatigue.

Why is it that Porsche can make cars that last hours on track and you only see them spied a couple of times before release and Corvettes putter around for years with no end in sight?

I’ll say it again, ‘spy shot’ marketing only works if it’s scarce … if you milk it on a daily basis, then, like a stripper that never takes her clothes off, it just becomes tiresome and annoying.

  8. Sounds like it has more gears than my mountain bike if I have to shift 3 times before I exit an intersection.

  9. Sounds like a v6….high revving dual over head cam by chance?
