Corvette Team Let Porsche Use Nürburgring Session To Run 911 GT3 RS Hot Laps

Corvette engineers were feeling kind recently at the Nürburgring and let a rival make utilize some of its own track time. During a Corvette session, the team invited Porsche to run the 911 GT3 RS for a few hot laps, which set a 6:56.4 lap time in the process.

Road and Track verified the rumor in a Wednesday report, which came the team tested the 2019 C7 Corvette ZR1. Apparently, the team gave Porsche the OK to run on their time, so long as they could watch the rival team at work.

At first, the 911 GT3 RS clocked a very respectable 6:59 time and the team was ready to pack up for the day. But, Andreas Preuninger, head of Porsche GT cars, felt the brand’s latest sports car had more in it. So, it clocked a 6:57 before ending up at the 6:56.4 time. According to the report, the Corvette team witnessed the runs with dropped jaws.

Thus far, we have no clue how quick the Corvette ZR1 is around the famed Nürburgring. A rumor and unofficial time peg the American brute to have run the track in 7:12. However, it’s unclear if the Corvette ZR1 was actually all-in on the particular lap. The 7:12 time is still quicker than the previous C6 Corvette ZR1, but a far cry from what Porsche has managed at the track.

  2. Hmm, how does Corvette make up 14 seconds? Sounds like a real challenge when I read jaws dropped with the Porsche run. But if anyone can figure it out Tadge and team can. Let’s hope.
