Strike up another tally for the 2019 C7 Corvette ZR1. The 755-horsepower sports car has set the record at Virginia International Raceway, this time for the “full course.”
VIR, like other racecourses, features a few configurations. Previously, the Corvette ZR1 set the record lap of 2:37.25 for the 4.1 mile Grand West Course. This time, the most powerful factory Corvette ever managed a 1:51.25 on the shorter 3.27-mile full course configuration to claim the fastest lap for a production car.
It’s unclear which vehicles the Corvette ZR1 dethroned with the latest record, but we imagine the team is still giddy after surpassing the Ford GT with its record for the longer Grand West Course configuration.
At the wheel for this latest lap record was Chevy Performance Engineer Alex MacDonald, who pushed the ZR1 to its limits and absolutely took advantage of the car’s raw speed on the two long straights included in the full course configuration.
Now, how about that Nürburgring lap time…

What people really want to see is the 2019 C7 Corvette ZR1 making an official lap on Germany’s Nurburgring; but one thing Chevrolet needs to realize is that it could be a matter of time before someone buys a 2019 C7 Corvette ZR1 and flies it to Germany for hot laps on the Nurburgring.
