1987 Buick Grand National With 49 Miles Seeks New Owner: eBay Find

Who doesn’t love a good barn find? We do, and this 1987 Buick Grand National currently up for auction on eBay ticks all of the boxes.

The car has allegedly sat in storage since delivery and was driven just two times. And the two drives weren’t even for fun; per the seller’s description, the car was driven to and from the storage facility. Mileage on the odometer? Just 49 miles.

The car has traded hands three times and is only up for auction now after the third owner passed away. The seller says the Grand National has been meticulously cared for and only a layer of dust separates the car from looking showroom ready.

Inside, the car’s upholstery remains covered with plastic from the factory and the original window stickers are all intact.

As if the thought of a low-mileage Grand National isn’t enough, the muscle car boasts all the options from the factory. They include factory-installed T-tops, and not dealer-installed units.  Additionally, factory gauges (not digital ones), a concert sound system, rear window defrost, power windows and driver’s seat and the 342 Posi-traction rear end option are all included.

But, things do happen as a car sits for decades. The seller states upfront that the rear bumper is quite faded and the paint’s condition is unknown due to the layer of dust. The original battery is also missing in action. The trunk’s gas struts have also failed with time.

Right now, the high bid sits at $70,100 with three days remaining on the auction.

  1. These were such cool cars back in the day. Seeing one going for this kind of money just tells me how popular they still are.

  2. Well I see the gas struts on the hood gone just like on my 1987! LOL They are awesome cars, I’ve had mine since new in 1987 and still only 48K miles. But nothing like this!

  3. Dealer installed t-tops? Never heard of that. Sunroof yes, t-tops no.

It would be nice if we could still buy one these from Buick today for $18k.

    1. Never seen them on these either, the previous 1973-1977 generation A-body did have dealer installed T-tops and Hurst T-tops like the F-bodies did, but I’ve never heard of that being done to these.

  4. It’s bitter sweet as 99.99% of people who would actually drop the estimated 6-figure price on this thing will only do one thing with it, the status quo…Technically this is on its forth owner and its only driven twice which will most likely seal this vehicles fate as a commodity…It’ll most likely be only purchased by investors who will continue to keep it locked away with the dust on it…I’d much rather see this randomly driving on the road…

    1. Agreed. Back in the day I used to think it was so cool to see low mileage “vault cars” now I consider it one of the dumbest things to do with ANY car, never mind a good collectible or ‘classic’. The only way theses car are able to make an impact on future enthusiast is to see them out in the wild doing what they were designed for.

The only people being impressed by the car in this state are us die hard fanatics, or those who grew up witnessing these in their prime. For everyone else, it’s just an old dusty car.
