Trans Am Worldwide Builds 1,100-HP Firebird Drag Racer

Trans Am Worldwide is a place for Pontiac fans to take solace. If the Pontiac Firebird and Trans Am were still around today, they might look something like what the company has built in the Trans Am Super Duty, which comes with plenty of retro touches and a screaming chicken on the hood. Because of course it does.

At the 2018 New York Auto Show, the company returned with something to top its 1,000-horsepower Super Duty, however: a Trans Am drag racer with 1,100 hp. Running race fuel and adding methanol injection helped the company reach the 1,100-hp figure, according to a Motor Trend report last Thursday.

The Trans Am starts life as a sixth-generation Chevrolet Camaro, but Trans Am Worldwide overhauls nearly everything to make the car something of its own. For the drag racer, the team added a nine-inch rear end, Eibach springs, a roll cage and a parachute tucked behind the license plate.

The company doesn’t have final numbers, but it’s hoping to clock an 8.7-second quarter-mile time. If not, it will absolutely be a nine-second car.

Pricing isn’t official, but the car shown in New York cost around $190,000 when all said and done, which includes the donor 2017 Camaro SS 1LE. A standard Trans Am will also cost $107,000. We think it’s absolutely worth it.

    1. Some people like that companies like this and Trans-Am Depot are keeping the Pontiac logo alive. If you don’t like it, don’t buy one. Quite simple.

  2. Yeah, it’s time to let it go. I had several Pontiacs and miss the brand. GM ran it into the ground. Shame.

    1. They had too many irons in the fire and were essentially competing against themselves in many vehicle segments. Look how many GM vehicles were literally the same exact vehicle with a different badge slapped onto the front.

      Cobalt=Pontiac G5=Saturn Ion
      Chevy Trailblazer=GMC Envoy=Olds Bravada
      Etc., etc., etc..

      1. Sounds like you have a real ax to grind with Pontiac….I am assuming you never heard of a GTO, Trans Am,
Grand Prix or “any” of the excitement cars that Pontiac brought to the table…your opinion is your opinion.

        1. I have plenty of exposure to pontiac I’ve driven all of them at some point in my life! Pontiac was a boat anchor weighting down GM!

The one division that needed to stay was the cash cow called hummer! And now people want a 4×4 dedicated truck!

          1. Your opinion is just that,… & ONLY “THAT”….”ONLY”….”YOUR OPINION” !

  12. Funny it’s my opinion and where is Pontiac now?

    1. Neither one matters.

  13. If they don’t matter then why did you bring it up?

  14. Where is Pontiac now? Pontiac should have been marketed as the performance division of GM. This is one of the big reasons that GM is having trouble selling sedans and coupes….another brilliant decision by Mary Barra and her minions!
Camaro, Corvette, and an overpriced CTS-V?…. That’s all you have, GM?
    Camaro….boy racer
    Corvette…60 plus’s reliving their youth
CTS-V…reserved for the wealthy more conservative 60 plus’s
