General Motors China will begin reporting its vehicle sales results on a quarterly basis, GM Authority has learned. By comparison, the automaker reported sales figures for China on a monthly basis since entering the market. The announcement follows the automaker’s decision to report sales on a quarterly basis in the U.S.
The United States and China are GM’s two biggest markets by sales volume and profits. In China, GM and its joint ventures market the Buick, Chevrolet, Cadillac, Baojun and Wuling brands.
For the remainder of 2018, GM China will report sales figures as follows:
- Second quarter 2018 sales, which include sales from April, May and June, will be released in July
- Third quarter 2018 sales, which include sales from July, August and September, will be released in October
- Fourth quarter 2018 sales, which include sales from October, November and December, will be released in January
GM’s reasoning for the change is that a 30-day window is not enough time to determine actual sales trends from other short-term impacts.
