A few days ago, we brought you a full album of 2019 Cadillac XT4 Premium Luxury pictures. Now, we’re bringing you photos of the 2019 Cadillac XT4 Sport.
Notably, the 2019 Cadillac XT4 introduces Cadillac’s new “Y” trim level structure, which starts off with the base trim level called Luxury. From there, buyers can upgrade to either the Premium Luxury or Sport trim levels, both of which offer distinct personas in terms of styling cues and features/equipment (which we will outline in a later post).
We examined every inch of both models, and snapped nearly 40 photos of the XT4 Sport model, which you can pursue here.
I saw the XT4 at the NY Auto Show last week. I want to temper my comments first by saying, I so want Cadillac (and Lincoln for that matter) to regain true luxury brand status again. I grew up with both brands and they both communicate a unique American stylel. However, Cadillac never fails to disappoint. There is nothing about this car that is luxurious. I mean, just slam the door — you hear a hollow sound that speaks volumes… So GM decided to save five bucks in the production cost of that door and now it sounds like a Chevy instead of Mercedes when you close it. See ya! The interior’s look , feel and use of materials is sub-sub-par. It might be aspirational to a Walmart shopper who’s in the market for a new car for the first time after years of owning seven year old used cars, It will never attract a Mercedes, BMW or Audi owner to the brand. As an example, there is this unbelievable and horrific hard plastic strip that runs between the side of the rear-seat and the door-opening to the car. What is this? It is the first thing you see when you get into the back seat. It is so “not luxury” that I didn’t even tryout the back seat. The XT4 is — UNFORTUNATELY — another smoke and mirrors “fake luxury” car from Cadillac. The one compliment I will give is that I very much like the new face and the new rear-end look treatments that Cadillac is adopting. The line is developing a “presence” again as far as exterior looks go. The CT6 revision is a huge improvement.
It’s a showcar, not production version.
It is the production version. There were two on the floor and full open and accessible. Show cars are never open to the public to sit in, touch, slam doors, etc. Furthermore, show cars are perfectly built with the best materials and zero compromises. None of what I pointed out would ever appear in a show car.
I agree most all Cadillac doors sound less than a high end Benz.
But so do low end BMW, Audi and low end Benz.
I am not so concerned here as you are paying a Buick price. Now the ne higher priced models should be expected to be better. I will wait for them.
Judging Cadillac on a $36k model is far from in depth.
100% agree on nearly everything you listed. I don’t know why you’re getting the down votes – you’re speaking the truth.
I guess people have a hard time accepting the truth. And with regards to the other person who said the quality is comparable to other (Mercedes, BMW, Audi) entry level luxury vehicles – Cadillac is in customer acquisition mode with this model, they need to be _better_ than the competition to win market share. The styling hits the mark in some ways, the materials/interior design fall short.
Thank you. As I said to someone else, this is not a show car; this is s production model. The public is never allowed to sit in, slam doors, etc., on a show car. Also show cars are perfect in their execution, utilizing superior materials that will never make it to production. If this was a show car I’d be very nervous about what the production car will be LOL
THIS IS AN ENTRY LEVEL VEHICLE. Geez relax folks. This is not a range topping caddy and like the competition (think the GLA/CLA set) it is built to a cost.
Ugh! That dashboard is not in the least bit sophisticated. That really puts me off. A premium vehicle with a very average interior???
WTF Cadillac, who do you want to buy this POS? If that’s your idea of a “premium” brand image, then no thanks.
Have you seen the Lexus NX? It will be the XT4’s primary competitor… and the XT4 is better in every way.
Again, the justification “if someone else does it, it’s ok for Cadillac to do it”. NOT. Real standards across all models are what could bring Cadillac back. Too bad JdN is just a copier, without standards. Fleetman is correct, the interior on the XT4 looks very un-luxury. Plus the stated dimensions show it to be very cramped for a Cadillac. Under 41″ of front legroom is not acceptable for a Cadillac, and the front headroom measurement appears cramped as well. What does Cadillac even mean, under JdN?
The problem is that you are falsely attributing features consumers want with features just because “someone else is doing it”.
Again, your xenophobia prevents you from thinking rationally.
If Cadillac continued to make the cars you, NostraDrewmus, thinks are what the market wants, Cadillac will go the way of Pontiac.
the outside its nice but inside yak,,,
These interior in-person looks real nice on these XT4 crossover. Pictures make it look like that, and it is a show car.
One complaint about the XT4 and frankly all other SUVs that Cadillac sells is why not make the windows full auto up/down all four? This is a luxury company after all.
Yup. Cost cutting at its finest. Hoping that no one will notice.
Just compared pics to the Lexus NX, Mercedes GLC, and BMW X1. The XT4 has a bit more flow to it than the rest. Lexus interior reminds me of fisher price toys, BMW looks drab, GLC has some flow to it but the Caddy is my preference.
What is the difference in this being a show car vs. production? Shouldn’t the kinks to be worked out before the auto show?
Yeah I just went through the interiors of all the competitors and they’re each horrible messes.
Only the Volvo XT40 comes even close, maybe the Evoque is second.
Every time I see the back tail lights I like the back end less. I’d have preferred a closer mimic of the front lights.
The back taillights no longer look like a Cadillac. Part of Johan’s plan to completely erase any vestige of Cadillac’s history, and make it look like everybody else. Too bad; you used to be able to tell a car was a Cadillac from just the taillights, which were evocative of the old tailfins. Not that Johan would know anything about that, or care.
Have you even seen a malaise era Cadillac? It looks identical to every other GM make from the time and that is the kind of crap you wish GM was still cranking out.
Johan is well aware of Cadillac’s history; and he’s smart enough not to make the same mistakes.
