2019 Cadillac XT4 Reservations Now Open

For buyers eagerly awaiting the 2019 Cadillac XT4, reservations for the compact crossover are now open.

Cadillac has begun advertising XT4 reservations in online ads and social media, while also updating the vehicle’s landing page on its website to include a “Reserve Yours” link. Following the link shows a basic configurator of the vehicle, allowing the user to select the trim level, exterior color, and drive type. Continuing to the next page asks the user to select their preferred Cadillac dealer and to enter their contact information.

Notably, the reservation process doesn’t actually reserve a vehicle, but instead collects information that is then passed on to the dealership, which in turn will contact the customer to finalize the details of the pre-order reservation. The process is sort of a pre-order, as it facilitates a connection between a dealer and a customer interested in the XT4. With this connection made, the dealer will reach out to the customer and order the XT4 to the customer’s preferences once GM opens orders for the XT4 at the GM Kansas City plant. The compact crossover is set to reach dealerships and go on sale this fall.

The XT4 introduce the brand’s new “Y” trim strategy: base models start well-equipped with the “Luxury” trim level, and those looking to upgrade can do so by selecting either the “Luxury” or “Sport” trim. Both models add their own unique touches, such as blacked-out elements and clear LED taillights on the Sport model over chrome elements and solid red taillights on Premium Luxury models.

No matter which trim, all XT4 models will feature an all-new Cadillac 2.0L Turbo LSY engine making 237 horsepower and 258 pound-feet of torque mated to the GM 9-speed automatic transmission. The crossover also re-introduces a rather successful strategy for Cadillac: outsize and underprice the competition. The XT4 is sized similarly to a BMW X3, for example, but its price point falls closer to an X2 or X1.

The XT4 will start at $35,790 including destination charge, though it’s unclear just how pricey and well-equipped the brand’s latest model can get.

  1. What a joke. Why in the world would anyone want to “reserve” one of these ugly little things? They’ll be built in whatever volumes the market will support. They aren’t limited production. It’s just a FWD corporate GM platform product with a corporate engine and a badge from a once-prestigious brand. I’m sure it’s ‘nice enough’ but there’s nothing rare or unique here worthy of a reservation system. It’s like saying Olive Garden is now taking reservations for tables this October.

  2. As a current Cadillac customer, XT5 and ATSV Coupe, I think Cadillac is losing its way. By reservation it makes you think of something special which XT4 so far is not. A measly 2.0T liter engine and no option for the six, just as pathetic as putting the 2.0T in the current CT6 flagship as the standard engine.

    1. Sure Cadillac could put a bigger motor in it. But CAFE is still gonna get stricker. When as a corporation you sell a lot of V8s you have to also offset that with more fuel efficient options. Not saying I agree, but its sort of what they have to do.

      1. You can also pay a fine for not meeting CAFE standards. I believe the current CAFE fine is $140 per mile per mpg over the limit, times the number of cars sold. So if the CAFE goal was 35 mpg, and a car company sold 1 million cars, with a “harmonic mean” (which includes adjusting for various credits, viewed to be “pro-green”) of 30 mpg across the cars sold, they would pay a fine of $700 million (5 x $140 x 1 million).

The CAFE standards and fines are per manufacturer, not per brand, so again this is a case for keeping Cadillac as part of GM rather than spinning it off as a separate company. Also, cars have different CAFE standards than trucks and light trucks, which is one reason auto manufacturers like making SUVs and CUVs as well as pick-up trucks.

Of course it’s a little strange that the typical owner of a full sized Cadillac with a V8 might drive a lot less and therefore burn a lot less fuel than the typical Toyota Corolla owner, but CAFE is about mpg capabilities (plus various “green initiative” adjustments) rather than actual fuel burned/year or actual C02 emittted.

  3. I would think that you should be able to configure one so you can see what you have. But why reserve one and you haven’t even test drove it. You may not even like the way it rides.

    1. If Tesla gets thousands to reserve their tiny and expensive Model 3 EV, why cant GM do the same for its more luxury brand? Besides, the Model 3 has terrible user interfacing (vents are motorized and controlled by the single center touchscreen) while the XT4 returned most controls to the classic buttons and knobs that real car drivers prefer to use. GM did a better job!

    2. I have confidence that ride and handling will be excellent for this type of vehicle. However, I rather take it out for the spin prior on deciding for purchase.

  5. It’s a lifted Malibu on steroids. The interior even looks Chevrolet. So many other better choices. By the time it finally gets here will already be behind the leaders. BMW, Mercedes, Audi, Lexus, Infinity, Acura, etc. Hopefully not at the bottom of the pack.

    1. I don’t think its even on steroids. I think the Malibu 2.0T has 250 HP 9 speed, and the Equinox 2.0T has 252 HP 9 speed. I think ill wait to see if rumors are true of a RWD/AWD XT4 with a little more oomph, and if not after 34 years and 5 Cadillacs we will look at someone else. I for SURE wouldn’t buy one of the first XT4. Our 2014 ATS 2.0T, 2015 GMC Canyon, and 2017 GMC HD Duramax all firsts and never again. Last time EVER I will buy a first from GM.

    2. You can do better than the XT4 if you go with BMW, Mercedes and perhaps Audi – but you’ll pay more. The Lexus, Infiniti and Acura offerings are all very much comparable to the XT4… and the XT4 is more affordable.

      1. Ah, the MSRP myth…If we’re going off base trim MSRP, ignoring incentives which change monthly and ignore standard base trim features this is going to be the extreme minority of buyers…GM will most likely apply more generous incentives (which change monthly) than the other automakers mentioned, however, more than half will lease this therefore the lease rate (also changes monthly) is more important than MSRP and usually the German/Japanese lease deals are better than Cadillac. We then have to consider that other models, mainly the Japanese include active safety features including AEB which can even lower your auto insurance premiums in some states, blind spot monitoring, ACC, etc is standard even on pure base trims…I understand not everyone on GMA likes these features but in GM-land, ACC usually requires top trims along with optional packages before you can add ACC to it…I love (never used it so the idea of) supercruise but it’s not yet available on the XT4…Enough of the God/Bacardi-splain, to oversimply this, MSRP is one of many metrics, the December lease deal will be our best indicator how this vehicle is doing sales-wise…

          1. Asian vehicles are disposables. They last few years , so the poor buyers get another. That is why they sell more. I see many junkers and salvage lots dedicated to these “disposibles”, since their parts cost three times or more what GM and Ford charges for the similar part. Ask just for a engine starter and see for yourself!

            1. Googling any of your claims is proving wrong on the first page; however I have to point out I never said “Asian”, I said was replying to German and Japanese only. I’m finding Toyota/Honda/Lexus/Acura starters, brand new, to be cheaper than Chevy/Cadillac although wouldn’t be surprised if the Germans are more expensive…Many on here won’t like this, the most reliable vehicle of all time is the Prius…People to assume but this is all front page google stuff…

  6. This is funny as it’s already broken and remember that over 55% of luxury vehicles are lease yet the leasing deal isn’t announced yet…You can only select 2017 or 2018 but the XT4 is a 2019 model which currently is not selectable but that could change once someone reports it…You can select any 2017 or 2018 Cadillac model 2WD or 4WD drive and it’s trim level; that’s it, can’t choose options, colors, etc…You then select your dealership from a list and it even states “Additional details to help your dealer with this request” and the “submit” button text was changed to “Reserve your XT4” despite me selecting an Esclade. You could always do this before by building out a config and electing to have a dealership contact you but now they’re actually call it a “reservation”…Because GM doesn’t have production problems, the XT4 isn’t going to have overwhelming demand…

  7. Not trying to be contrary to everyone on here, but I really hope these doom and gloom predictions don’t come true. I remember when the Buick Encore was first shown and everyone was predicting it’s failure for many of the same reasons that are now given as predictions of the XT4’s imminent failure. I am disappointed that the XT4 doesn’t pack a more powerful punch, but that shortcoming hasn’t hurt the Encore’s sales as much as most everyone (including myself) thought it would.

    1. I see the same success for the Buick Envision which sells even better than the Encore. I expect the new Buick Enspire to be a big hit, too, as for the Cadillac XT4.

      1. What does a Chinese Buick have to do with Cadillac? Although as for reliability, I’m willing to bet the Envision will rate at the opposite end of the spectrum to the XT4, if you know what I mean.

      2. You might want to check the sales figures for Buick. The Envision isn’t close to the Encore
