Corvette lead engineer, Tadge Juechter, previously hinted his team is hoping for the 2019 C7 Corvette ZR1 will achieve a sub-seven-minute lap time around the Nürburgring, and it appears they’re preparing for a go.
The Corvette ZR1 was recently spotted lapping the 12.9-mile circuit in Germany, likely preparing and collecting data ahead of a proper run. Video shows the car outfitted with the ZTK performance package and the goofy exhaust treatment to hush the Corvette ZR1’s wail inside the track boundaries.
Is a lap time under seven minutes doable? It seems like it. The previous C6 Corvette ZR1 managed to clock a 7:19.63 in 2011. Seven years later, the 2019 Corvette ZR1 is packing considerable more power, added aerodynamic trickery and more grip.
The C7 Corvette Z06 also lapped the Green Hell in an unofficial 7:13.9.
We don’t know when the Corvette team will take to the ‘Ring for an official lap time, but Juechter said it will likely be sometime after the ZR1’s launch. The 755-horsepower Corvette is officially on sale now.
