Now in its second model year, the 2019 Buick Regal Sportback is getting a few notable new features and updates, the most notable of which is the introduction of the Avenir trim level, which follows the LaCrosse Avenir and Enclave Avenir as the range-topping trim level of the Regal Sportback lineup.
Assigned trim level code 1SU and model code 4ZY68, the 2019 Regal Avenir slots above the Essence trim and below the GS and contains many features as standard that are optional on other models.

The Regal Avenir is highlighted by the following features and equipment:

- Driver Confidence Package I that combines some of Regal’s most popular features, including:

A top-end trim without AWD??? AWD a key differentiation that Regal offers over the Malibu. Regal buyers are in the more premium market and expect AWD. I hope this option is added soon.
Those building this in Germany believe the lack of AWD on the 1SU/Avenir is temporary.
I was projecting to trade in my newly purchase 2007 Buick Lucerne CX for a Buick Regal Sportback Essence AWD in 1 1/2 to 2 yrs. until I noticed the cheap leatherette interior with the Chevrolet instrument cluster. Thus, I have changed to the 2019 Toyota Avalon Limited or Touring. But I will reconsider if the Regal Avenir has preforated leather seats with AWD. I would also want the 2.0 liter turbro designed for regular gasoline with an upgraded instrument cluster.
So no AWD standard, still no cooled seats except on the GS line. Also, why no Avenir on the TourX
No Head up display, no V6 or AWD (standard or as options), no ventilated seats, no automatic heated steering wheel (like several “lesser” Chevys), no heated rear seats (even the Malibu has those!), no chestnut interior color, no new or exclusive exterior colors, no sueded headliner… lame!
Second model year info. Have seen zero on the street in Canada.
Crappy package. All Avenir product should be AWD and GS should get Avenir. TourX Avenir with adverts had potential but the wagon is already getting old.
Gm is f ing up by not putting passenger side auto dimming mirrors. Especially on Cadillac and Buick.
The sad part is you can all the wish list items and odds are it will be sitting on the dealer lots like the Lacrosse with heavy discounts.
It is a shame this car was not in 2004 vs. 2018. It is tough to gain a foot hold in this market and I expect it will only be tougher. Just another good car at the wrong time.
About the only thing Buick could bring that may sell more units is a short wheelbase C1XX model. Make it a coupe like 5 door with AWD and add a performance version with real power. Make it unique to the GM line and it will sell.
you nailed it, Scott3
None of the trims or additions are going to make much of difference in the big picture of the sales of the Regal.
The Crossover unfortunately owns the vehicle sales landscape.
Scott, Considering that I have not seen a single 2018 Regal on the roads anywhere yet, you’re most likely spot on, BUT why even bother having the Avenir then? First of all, almost all of the items that I mentioned exist either on the Opel version of this car, or are already on the Regal GS. They wouldn’t be hard or expensive to implement. The AWD, V6, head up display and uplevel gauge cluster are already on the GS. The chestnut interior (or similar), and ventilated front seats are already offered on the Insignia. Secondly, Buick is positioned as a premium brand, so that says to me that they should have at least a comparable level of equipment as mass market Chevys get. That means automatic heated steering wheel and heated rear seats. They want the Avenir line to be the best of the best, luxury, and Buick’s cash cow like the Denali line is for GMC. Why aren’t they equipping the Avenir vehicles with luxury features? If they want to sell it, they need to make it worth buying, and quit phoning it in. Having a unique grille, and wheels might make for a nice appearance package, but this is not a true luxury trim level. It is not something special, and at this level it just doesn’t even need to exist.
Here is the problem. The car was not made for America. Yes the federalize it but it was never really designed as a priority for America.
Someone at GM saw this as a Cheap way to put the car in the show room as I suspect the Lacrosse will go away soon.
Today Ford announced it will only have two specialty cars the Mustang and a CUV like Focus. All other cars will die.
Dodge will announce soon what they will do with the RWD cars as that is all they have left. Only one is sellin well out of three but not in a volume to support it easily.
GM will soon kill a number of cars one I expect will be the Impala.
I could see a GM left with a Malibu and one other smaller car with the Camaro at Chevy.
What is really telling is my GMC dealer here. Since losing Pontiac GM has wanted them to take on Buick. They hav refused as they feel they are better off without any cars. They average $65,000 on sales of vehicles as the move tons of Yukons and Denali models.
I wish GM would get creative with the CUV models at Buick. Also their price structure would be good tor EV models.
I have seen a couple Regals but I expect them to remain rare.
Now Buick CUV models you can’t swing a dead cat and not hit one.
Why did they even bother? Isn’t the Avenir trim supposed to be top of the line? No AWD. No heated rear seats. No cooled seats. No V6 option. And that is just for starters. The Avenir trim just sounds like what the Essence should have been.
It’s incomprehensible in 2019 that certain things like LED lighting, safety features such as blind side alert and rear cross traffic and XM radio are not even offered until you climb up 3-4 trim levels of a new near luxury player in a field that favors SUV’s. I wouldn’t be nearly as surprised if this were a cheaper Chevy model like the Malibu but even that offers things that are simply not offered on a Regal like heated rear seats, A/C seats unless you buy a hard riding GS or the heated steering wheel.
GM needs to stop being so stingy with equipment, especially on a near lux offering that is new to the field. I understand wanting to offer a lower priced entry now that the slow selling Verano is gone but seriously. The base Regal hatch is a joke. No leather wheel. No XM radio. No rear seat map pockets. A blank out where the overhead sunglasses holder would be. No power seat or lumbar adjustments. No safety features even blind spot or lane departure. No LED headlights. I would expect this sort of thing back in 2000. For 2019 it is just obvious cost cutting and cheapness and has no place in the Buick line.
I haven’t seen a single one on the streets.
Never seen an 18 regal. Never seen a 17 or 18 lacrosse. Chevy SS I have seen 5 since 2014.
