1993 Holden VP Commodore Makes An Appearance On Regular Car Reviews: Video

Regular Car Reviews landed in New Zealand for a batch of new episodes, and Mr. Regular found himself behind the wheel of a Holden.

It’s a 1993 VP Commodore Executive, and in typical RCR fashion, the video digs deeper into its quirks and plenty of random associations with societal and cultural fads are present.

The VP Commodore was in production from 1991 to 1993 and featured two engine choices: a 3.8-liter V6 engine and a 5.0-liter V8 engine. In the video, this particular Commodore houses the 3.8-liter V6 under the hood. It’s not fast, but the owner apparently uses the durable Commodore for towing purposes.

As distant as Australia is from North America, 1990s GM is alive and well within the VP Commodore. The interior is absolutely reminiscent of Chevrolet and Buick at the time, though the exterior does look just a tad sportier than we’d expect.

  1. Theoretically you could import one here now under the 25 year rule.

  2. The VT series (1997-2000) was the best of the Commodores, until the fully Aussie designed & made VE series came along.

  3. It is obvious that the RCR commentator has no idea of the psychi of Aussies and Kiwis…lol. The car you were commenting of was a car for its time down under. As you said, the car serves its purpose…getting the driver and passengers from point A to point B. And still popular..admittedly it has reduced down to hoon and bogan status with some people here, but I won’t hold that against the car..lol.
