The GM Authority Take
The Colorado’s 7 percent February growth rate was good, but the Toyota Tacoma and Nissan Frontier grew at a faster 18 percent and 69 percent, respectively. The performance of those key competitors results in the Colorado growing slower than its segment average of 19 percent.
The Colorado’s February U.S. sales performance enabled it to maintain its second place finish in its segment, behind the Toyota Tacoma yet ahead of the Nissan Frontier as well as the Colorado’s platform mate, the GMC Canyon (see GMC Canyon sales). However, the Frontier was only behind the Colorado by 58 units. We suspect that the Frontier’s growth rate was enabled by extremely high sales to the fleet and commercial sectors.

About Chevrolet Colorado
The Chevrolet Colorado is a mid-size pickup truck. It is currently Chevrolet’s smallest pickup truck in the U.S. and Canada, slotting under the full-size Chevrolet Silverado. In Mexico, the Colorado slots above the compact Chevrolet Montana but below the Silverado/Cheyenne (the name for some of Silverado’s trim levels in Mexico).
The current model was introduced in 2015 and represents the second generation of the Colorado nameplate. The model rides on the GMT-31XX platform shared with the GMC Canyon, as well as the international-market Chevrolet Colorado/S10 and Chevrolet Trailblazer.

The 2018 Chevy Colorado represents the fourth model year of the second-generation Colorado. The vehicle remains highly competitive in its segment, offering two gasoline engines and a diesel motor, which is a segment exclusive. The off-road-specific Colorado ZR2 was launched for the 2017 model year. However, the Colorado family continues to lack various features asked by many present and potential customers, such as a moonroof, a sliding rear window, as well as a range-topping LTZ or High Country trim level.
A midcycle refresh for the 2019 model year is expected to bring revised front and rear styling, as well as possible updates to the interior, and powertrain. It’s possible that the 2019 Colorado will address the aforementioned lack of features/equipment.
The Chevrolet Colorado is built at the GM Wentzville factory in Missouri operated by GM USA.

Chevy need to advertise the Colorado better, is the better truck on the segment, let be people know why. Tacomas keeps selling like hotcakes, i dont know. Why the americans dont support ther companies?
Mainly because I heard they were giving away free frames and alloy wheels to customers of Tacoma’s that were past 5 years old.
The frontier is also quite a bit cheaper than the taco or gm twins. Here in the midwest, for every tacoma I see 10 gm twins. tacomas must be a coastal thing.
Im from Puerto Rico and is the other way around, for every Colorado I see there are 15 or 20 fu…. Tacomas.
They also need to build more. Dealers don’t have enough on the lots. Now the question is it because they aren’t ordering or GM can’t build them fast enough.
When I was looking for a Colorado or Canyon there was very very little selection. AND 3 years later there still is very little selection. When I realized they were just as difficult to get into I got a Silverado LTZ which I love but am selling because I have back and neck issues and need a lower to the ground truck… Ridgeline… I don’t tow anymore and don’t haul that much. At this point in the game the Ridgeline meets my needs. Would I prefer a GM product that did? Sure.. I have been 100% Chevy for 50 years… But all good things must come to an end.. Colorado and Canyon too difficult to get in and out of for a 5’4″ woman and they seem geared to off road. I am in FL don’t need to be “off Road”.
