The GM Authority Take
The Camaro’s 21 percent February sales drop pushed it down into third and last place in its direct segment in terms of overall monthly sales volume. By comparison, Ford Mustang sales decreased 30 percent to 5,800 units while Dodge Challenger sales decreased 0.23 percent to 6,093 units. As such, the Camaro post the second-highest decrease among its two direct pony car rivals, while being outsold nearly two-fold by the Challenger.
We attribute the ongoing negative sales performance of the sixth-generation Camaro to high prices of the sixth-generation model, particularly when it comes to entry- and mid-level models. The scenario appears to have pushed price-conscious buyers to more affordable offerings from Ford and Dodge. The fact that Camaro incentives were not very attractive in February exacerbated the model’s higher pricing structure.
Chevrolet is widely expected to refresh the Camaro for the 2019 model year, and the update is expected to bring about a revised trim level structure, thereby introducing a more affordable model.
However, it’s possible that various product-related issues could be preventing the Camaro from reaching its sales potential, including reduced visibility from within the cabin, a dashboard design that some might not find attractive, as well as little differentiation from the fifth-gen Camaro in terms of exterior styling.

About Chevrolet Camaro
The Chevrolet Camaro is a family of sports cars that includes a two-door coupe and two-door soft-top convertible as well as various performance variants such as SS, 1LE, ZL1 and ZL1 1LE. The legendary nameplate was first introduced in 1966 and went out of production in 2002 as the fourth-gen model. The Camaro was re-introduced in 2009 as an all-new fifth-generation model based on the GM Zeta platform.
The Camaro is currently Chevrolet’s most affordable sports car, slotting below the Chevrolet Corvette. The current model was introduced for the 2016 model year and represents the sixth generation of the Camaro nameplate. The model rides on the GM Alpha platform shared with the Cadillac ATS and Cadillac CTS.
The 2018 Chevy Camaro represents the third model year of the sixth-gen Camaro. An midcycle refresh is expected for the 2019 model year that is said to include freshened front and rear ends as well as a revised trim level structure that would bring about a lower price point, addressing one of the biggest criticisms of the gen six Camaro. In fact, GM Authority exclusively reported on a possible introduction of a Camaro 3LT trim level, which would enable Chevy to offer the Camaro 1LT and 2LT trim levels with less equipment and at lower price points than the 2016-2018 Camaro.
The gen six Chevy Camaro is assembled for global markets by GM U.S.A. at the GM Lansing Grand River plant in Lansing, Michigan, USA.

Check rental sales for each make and you will see where they are actually are in sales.
Coupe sales are tanking. Sedans are not far behind.
It may get to where we will only see high priced couples and luxury sedans because the higher price can support the lower volumes.
Scott3, even the Mazda MX-5 Miata, which is basically the last of the affordable 2 seat roadster is selling only around 10,000 units a year and Mazda basically has that market segment to itself.
The Coupe segments are definitely dwindling.
Personally, I love the new Camaro. I like a lot of things about the gm lineup but there are some things i would love to see change. For starters i would love to see a revamp of the lineup of GMC, Chevrolet, Buick & Cadillac let’s start with Chevrolet.
Chevrolet: Drop the Spark, the cruze, (unfortunately the Impala) the equinox, traverse and trax first and foremost, they are so not needed. Keep the Camaro, the Corvette and the Malibu along with the Tahoe & Suburban, bring back the Blazer, redo the Colorado and do a few upgrades to the Silverado. The lineup should look something like this
Camaro: All Camaros should ride on an updated Alpha-2 chassis which should be aluminum and carbon fiber and allow the Camaro to have 2cu-ft space more than the current mustang. The next gen Camaro needs to have more optional trims than the current Camaro lineup and Mustang lineup while being a better offer than the mustang as an overall car and not just performance. The styling should be evolutionary with new factory sequential tail lamps that more mimic the styling of the three-section taillamps of the ’69 Camaro but with LED lighting and red and black housings (except for the RS/RS Berlinetta which should be red and white with standard bulbs)
Camaro RS: Base Model 3.8L mild hybrid 350hp/350tq, rwd, 10-speed auto/ 6-spd manual with all the Camaro 2LT premium features standard
Camaro RS Berlinetta: same as above but with Buick level interior and quiet-ride. ATS V-Sport magnetic ride suspension, AWD and Bose stereo system
Camaro RS 1LE: hotter tuned 3.8L mild hybrid V6 375hp/360tq, ATS-V suspension and braking, ATS-V interior with Camaro embroidery, Alcantara steering wheel, 10-speed auto/6spd manual, E-differential, HUD w/ track recorder
Camaro SS-327: 5.4L Mild Hybrid V8 engine w/ 425hp/460lb-ft torque, 8spd auto/6spd Manual, current LT1 tri-y shorty manifolds, dual mode exhaust system, 4-piston Brembo brakes front and rear, magnetic ride, navigation, premium stereo, pedestal mounted rear spoiler, dual racing stripes
Camaro SS-327 1LE: above w/ current 1LE features
Camaro SS-396: 6.5L Mild Hybrid V8 variant of the current 6.2L LT1 V8 with upgrades to the fuel delivery system, mid-length Tri-Y manifolds with scavenger spikes, dual mode exhaust system tuned to replicate the sound of a ’67-’69 Camaro SS, 10-speed auto, 6spd manual, current 6th-gen 1LE suspension and brakes (standard) 475hp rated/ 515lb-ft torque, factory standard Hurst shifter on manual cars, hounds tooth Recaro seating, 3.5″ duckbill spoiler w/ gurney flap (not full lip), front fender and rear fender brake vents, 1LE side skirts, factory hockey stick graphics and front lip & functional hood vents w/ water deflectors
Camaro Z/28: Current ZL1 suspension and chassis setup w/ DOHC 5.0L N/A (302ci) V8 pushing 520hp/475tq. body needs to be more of the SS Styling with larger 5.75″ tall duckbill spoiler w/ gurney lip, flared fenders, ZL1-1LE side skirts, flow tie grill, aggressive splitter, cowl induction hood, windshield cowl dual ram Cold air induction, mid-length tri-y manifolds with larger diameter piping and scavenger spikes, dual mode exhaust system w/ side pipes for track mode, quad tip rear mufflers by Borla as standard equipment, Max performance summer tires & Z/28 stripes
Camaro ZL1: 7.0L supercharged V8 (427ci LT7 variant of the LS7 505hp V8) pushing 700hp with all the current ZL1-1LE equipment with two different wing options (standard ZL1 wing and ZL1-1LE wing)
Corvette: The Corvette is coming into a league of its own now. I would honestly have no problem seeing Cadillac take the Corvette and let the Corvette seriously evolve into a mid-engine sports car with proper sports car luxuries and all that kind of stuff. It’s time to truly let the Corvette grow up.
Malibu: It would be nice to see an Alpha-2 platform sedan and the Malibu should be it. Let the car have a base 3.8L V6 Mild Hybrid engine from the Camaro RS with a smooth ride, AWD, torque vectoring and premium features. There needs to be a Malibu SS-396 with the Camaro SS-396 features just in an AWD Sedan form with the 10-speed auto and 6-speed manual.
Now for the Chevy SUV lineup
Chevrolet Blazer: With Ford bringing back the Ranger and the Bronco, the Blazer needs to be a Colorado based SUV built to do battle with the Bronco both on and off road. A Torquey Inline-6 diesel turbo engine needs to be in place along with a base 3.8L 350hp V6 mild hybrid. The off road ZR2 variant needs 32” tires, the Colorado ZR2 suspension setup, big brakes, dual exhaust, underbody armor & Dana axles &. There should also be a street performance Blazer SS with more emphasis on street performance with 20” wheels, Brembo brakes, magnetic ride, a 425hp 5.4L V8, 10-speed auto, aerodynamic styling, etc.
Chevrolet Tahoe: Give the suburban name to GMC and make the Tahoe Chevrolet’s big dog SUV. Engine choices should be the 425hp 5.4L mild hybrid and a high-performance RST 6.5L 475hp variant like the current Tahoe RST but on the new Silverado platform so it would be lighter and lower and more aerodynamic. There should also be a Z71 Trail Boss package option along with the RST and base model package as well as a Tahoe high Country SUV. The Tahoe should encompass both the regular wheel base (Tahoe GT) and a long wheel base version (Tahoe XL)
Colorado: redesign the Colorado with more of a modern ’69 C10 pickup look same engines as in the Blazer with a top of the line 5.4L (327ci V8) in a street performance truck. Of course, magnetic ride, Brembo brakes, 20×9” wheel, wide tires 10-speed auto, performance tuned 4×4 upgraded aerodynamics, 2-door and 4-door models should all be available. The ZR2 should continue with a new Diesel inline-6 turbo as the standard engine for the package. Of course, then there is the base (custom) 3.8L 350hp V6 with the optional Z71 package and a High Country Z71 package as well.
Silverado 1500: Cool enough lineup so far. Seems like it’s going to be a fairly capable truck. It’s missing a blacked out 6.5L SS396 street performance variant w/ AWD, lowered, magnetic ride performance tuned suspension with selectable drive modes, huge Brembo brakes, dual mode exhaust exiting before the rear tires behind the cab, mid-length tri-y manifolds, 2-door and 4-door models, Recaro seats w/ Alcantara inserts, Alcantara steering wheel, seating for five only, high performance stereo system, 22×10.5” wheels w/ 325/35R22 ultra high performance all season tires, cowl induction hood w/ functional ram air from the cowl and the grille, Aerodynamic ground effects, hard single-piece bed cover with integrated lip spoiler & factory privacy glass. Trim levels should be Scottsdale WT, Custom, Z71 Trail boss, SS, and Silverado Cheyenne (equivalent to High Country).
Silverado HD: Introduction of the new 7.4L (454 Duramax) twin turbo Diesel V8 pushing out 1,000lb ft of torque and 454hp. Trim levels should be the same as Silverado 1500.
Now for GMC. The GMC brand should go with the Jimmy (blazer) the Yukon, the Suburban, the Cyclone (Colorado) and Sierra pickups. Just like now they should be GMC Professional grade standard with Denali models available on all models.
Next, Buick. Let’s keep it simple. Alpha platform Avista coupe with 464hp 3.6L TT V6, Alpha platform Regal GNX sedan w/ 464hp 3.6L TT V6, Alpha platform Regal GS w/ 350hp 3.8L V6, Omega platform Lacrosse w/ 350hp 3.8L V6, Omega platform Lacrosse Avenir w/ 400hp 3.0TT V6, Colorado Chassis Enclave Avenir with 350hp V6 and call it a day! No more Opels, no more FWD based vehicles lets build American cars now. Thanks!

All I can say is thank God you don’t run GM……jeez……did you transcribe this from a crayon scribbled manifest?….8 models of Camaro….thats where I stopped reading……Also FWD = not American…..people that own Toronados and Eldorados would probably like to have a word with you about that……
I still believe v8 powered hot rods muscle cars and trucks should still run the American roads along with Harley Davidsons and Indian motorcycles. Japan can keep their front wheel drive 4cylinders and crap like that.
FWD, like a Cord or a Toronado and 4 cylinder like a Model T or Model A?
Btw how many models of challenger and charger does dodge have? Just saying
It interesting that you use both Harley and Dodge as examples, 2 companies that are kind of on the skids.
