Buick Smartphone App Will Coach Your Driving Techniques

In 2016, Buick launched its Smart Driver program as a free web-based, opt-in service for OnStar customers. Now, it’s available on the myBuick smartphone app itself.

Buick launched the Smart Driver program for the myBuick app on Thursday and it holds the same capabilities as the original web-based service. Smart Driver will monitor a driver’s driving behaviors and coach them to become better drivers.

After enrolling in the service, Buick drivers will be able to see:

  • Total number of hard braking events
  • Total number of hard acceleration events
  • High-speed driving percentage
  • Late-night driving percentage
  • Total miles driven
  • Average mpg and mph
  • Tips on how to become a smarter driver
  • Overall Smart Driver score

Buick likened the service to health and financial monitoring applications, which can help people change and reflect on their habits. The brand thinks good driving behavior is no different.

“Bringing Buick Smart Driver services into the myBuick app can help our customers become more aware of their driving behaviors and improve as necessary,” Steve Samolinski, senior manager of Buick Connected Services, said.

Owners of 2015 and newer Buick models will have access to the app and its suite of services.

  3. On the LE1 equipped Camaro/ZL1s & Vettes the Performance Data Recorder (PDR) is available and from a marketing standpoint would have been the better direction to go…

Clearly GM is expanding on their existing in vehicle teen driver tech to report on the app…What Buick owner is going to care about the % of “late night” drives?
