The GM Authority Take
Buick Envision deliveries fell greater than the segment average of 3.48 percent in February. What’s more, the sales volume was less than half of the over 6,000 units sold in December 2017. The performance retains the Envision in third place in terms of cumulative sales volume in its segment, behind the Lexus NX and Acura RDX, but ahead of the Lincoln MKC (see Lincoln MKC sales) and Infiniti QX50. In addition, Lexus NX sales grew significantly faster than the segment average, being the only model in its segment to increase deliveries in, widening the sales volume gap between it and the segment’s other models.
We expect Envision sales to continue growing in the coming months as long as the market continues to favor crossovers and Buick is capable of keeping up with demand for the vehicle. Whether the Envision can catch up to Lexus and Acura sales volumes in the future remains to be seen, but the scenario has yet to take place on a yearly basis since the Envision launched. What’s more, the Envision will soon see internal competition from GM’s Cadillac brand and its upcoming 2019 Cadillac XT4 compact crossover, which will aim to take on the Lexus NX, Acura RDX, and Infiniti QX50 head on.

Below, we display sales numbers for prestige compact luxury crossovers for informational purposes. Despite being close in size to the Lexus NX, Acura RDX, Buick Envision and Lincoln MKC, these vehicles have starting prices roughly $5,000-$7,000 higher and therefore are generally purchased by a different subset of customers than those interested in premium compact crossovers. For instance, the Buick Envision starts at $34,065 while the Mercedes-Benz GLC-Class starts at $40,050, the BMW X3 starts at $42,650, and the Alfa Romeo Stelvio starts at $41,995. As such, compact premium and prestige crossovers are comparable from a size standpoint, but are in different segments from a pricing/transactional standpoint.
We should note that the upcoming Cadillac XT4 will likely be a premium compact crossover, meaning that it is expected to start in the $34,000-$36,000 range.

About Buick Envision
The Buick Envision is a compact crossover that slots above the subcompact Buick Encore and below the full-size Buick Enclave. The current, first-generation Envision was introduced for the 2016 model year. The vehicle is based on a variant of the GM D2 platform shared with the second-generation GMC Terrain, Chevrolet Cruze, and Chevrolet Volt.
The Envision launched with a relatively steep starting price of $42,995 in 2016, since it was available only in the two highest trim levels and with the most potent turbo 2.0L LTG engine. The 2017 model introduced several lower-end trim levels, enabling the starting price to drop to $34,990. The 2018 model goes unchanged from the 2017 model. However, the 2019 Envision is getting a midcycle refresh that includes a significant amount of changes, including new headlights and front grille, the new GM 9-speed automatic transmission on Premium models, new exterior colors and interior color combinations, reconfiguring the exhaust pipe on non-Premium models to be turned under the vehicle, new taillights, new wheel choices, the replacement of Ice Blue ambient lighting with White, and the addition of three new technologies – an ionizing air cleaner, Tire Fill Alert, and wireless cell phone charging.

2019 Buick Envision
The Buick Envision is currently built exclusively at the GM Dong Yue factory operated by GM China.

Really depressing since some models had a $5,500 incentive on them to move the 18s before 19s come out in I believe April.
Nobody wants this Made in China Buick obviously. Let that be a lesson learned for Buick and GM.
Highly doubt the Buick Envision sales will grow considering the new tariffs on Chinese goods. GM would have to move production to North America to keep the prices down. This goes for Ford as well with the new Ford Focus. 😛
%99 percent of clothing in malls imported from China. How is THAT going to work?
Last time I checked he was talking about cars not clothes. Have you even ready the tariff/ import tax bill? And maybe it time to start making things in America again, dont you think? Or you just like a crappy economy where the Chinese dominate?
And RECIPROCAL TARIFFS mean just that…If China charges 25%, then we return the favor. Nothing unfair about that. We finally have a president with yhe balls to protect America communities, not just bow to the Chinese. Pretty soon they will have to treat us fairly (“free trade”) or their economy will collapse. 90% of trade benefits China not America so they stand to lose more.
I’m sorry but I think this is the ugliest Buick model. The side profile is nice it reminds me of a BMW X3, but that front end is terrible. I’m pretty sure it is the headlights that really make it ugly and of course for the mid cycle facelift they changed everything but the design of those ugly things.
I wouldn’t call it ugly. More bland. In the GM sense of things I feel the new Terrain suffers from the weakest design appearance. Which is weird because the Acadia is probably the strongest. I have zero need for an Acadia and I simply can’t take my eyes off it.
Buick’s Envision is a hit; but the real question is why is General Motors still importing them from China and not building the CUV in the United States as it’s like Trump says.. China applies a 25-percent tariff on all foreign made cars which means the Buick Envision should experience a 25-percent tariff tax also.
Either China has fair trade, meaning eliminates its tax on American cars, or the Envision is built here. Or China will lose and the Envision will be a failure for GM.
Toyota and Mazda are big on building in the U.S., so why not American companies like GM? It is about time!
GM wants us to buy USA, but the Envision is made in China! I worked 40 years for GM so I have always drove GM cars. I like the Envision, but will not buy it because it was made in China. So instead I bought a Toyota, because it was made in USA.
Envision made in China for the same reason that much of IPhone, most TVs and electronics and much of what is found in Wal Mart and Target.
It is a global society and makes economic sense!
Oh boy! I can’t wait for the ’19 with the reconfigured exhaust pipe turned under the vehicle, the replacement of Ice Blue ambient lighting with White, and the addition of an ionizing air cleaner, tire fill alert, and wireless cell phone charging (for every model except the one I own).
Bland design, underwhelming drivetrain, in a highly competitive market and made in China. How could it lose?
I work at a GM dealership with all four brands and is in the top five for sales volume in the state. Simply put people hate the motor. If this had the 2.0T standard sales would increase dramatically. People do not want the extra features of a Premium, let alone the price jump of $3,000. If the 2,.0T was standard I would personally double my Envision sales.
Sales will pick back up, once they get more on these lot, they have sold as fast as they can get them on these lot, and tariff will not hurt it, not worried about.
It’s not a bad vehicle , but I am starting to think it is starting to become a political thing .
Any time this Envision is mentioned what you hear is ” isn’t this the one made in China ” ? When GM first made the decision to export the car they claimed that if it sold more than 30,000 a year they would look into the feasability of building it in the States , that still hasn’t happened .
Sure some of the other crossovers may cost more but look at the content in those vehicles and they are willing to pay that premium for the image .
Plus the factory that builds the Cruze and Volt have the capacity and the same platform where it can be built here if GM really wanted to .
GM wants that facility open in China for part of it’s global stratedgy plain and simple .
as far as ugly its styling carries on the Buick flair and is inline with other styles .if you want to see ugly look at some of those imports -really ugly . Gm needs to concentrate on standard and option packages –your producing a Buick not a Kia . And again i’ll say it regardless of global auto market people don’t want a American GM division ( Buick ) assembled in china .
James G- I worked for GM for 40 years, drove GM cars for over 40 years. I am still driving an America made Buick. I just bought my first Toyota that was made in the USA. The Envision would of been what I needed to fit my needs. But sadly it was made in China. I will never buy a car or tires made in China. GM wants you to buy America, so why do you not build in America!
i agree with james g i work as a service advisor for gm dealers for 30 years also owning 13 Oldsmobile’s . but i would never buy a car that was not made in USA
I did see the 2019 Envision at the New York auto show. The front clip/grill is all new. To me, the new look is too bland for this vehicle. The new grill is smaller and the overall front end looks too rounded. In addition, the Buick emblem is quite large for a small grill. The design lines on the front clip are barely noticeable.
I like the new Envision, but I feel that the new front clip could use sharper lines to give it more of a sport luxury look.
