Another Self-Driving Chevy Bolt EV Attacked In California

Another self-driving Chevrolet Bolt EV, part of General Motors’ Cruise Automation division, was attacked in California, following an incident in February.

The latest incident occurred three weeks after a pedestrian threw himself into a Cruise AV self-driving car while the car sat at a traffic signal waiting for pedestrians to cross in the crosswalk. A California DMV report filed by Cruise stated a taxi driver “exited his vehicle, approached the Cruise AV, and slapped the front passenger window, causing a scratch.”

No injuries occurred in either incident, and the pedestrian in the first incident was never identified. Cruise reported the man shouted and “struck the left side of the Cruise AV’s rear bumper and hatch with his entire body” in incident one.

It’s also unclear what caused the taxi driver to slap the self-driving Bolt EV in the first place.

We have a feeling more of these kinds of reports will begin trickling out as self-driving vehicles proliferate.

  1. If Vegas would take this bet, it’s nearly guaranteed there will be continued attacks and while CA has a public reporting requirement, Cruise is testing these in other states that do not have this public reporting requirements so there’s likely more that go unreported…

If you’re a career taxi driver (or any position) and you see your robot replacement for the first time which you know will eliminate your career and income it could spark some unwanted emotions…

  2. The taxi driver is repeating history when workers toss their boots (Sabots) into machines as a protest against losing their jobs. That is the origin of “sabotage”. He is against AVs that will take away his job.

He should be arrested and jailed!
