2019 Camaro Interior To Get Redesigned Center Stack, Infotainment Screen

It’s no secret that the Camaro will be getting a refresh, otherwise known as a facelift or midcycle enhancement (MCE), for the 2019 model year. So far, all of the attention has been focused on the updates to the car’s exterior, but a closer look reveals that the 2019 Camaro interior is also going to get some love.

The most recent set of 2019 Camaro spy shots confirm that the 2019 Camaro will stick with a 6-speed manual transmission rather than switching to a 7-speed unit as rumored previously, while also showing that the sports car will be getting the following interior updates.

Update: upon further consideration, the Camaro test model seen in the spy shots appears to be a lower trim level equipped with a 7-inch infotainment screen. This setup is standard on the 1LS trim level of the 2016-2018 Camaro. The finding disqualifies items 1-3 in the below list.

However, the interface of the actual infotainment system of the vehicle in the spy shots does, in fact, appear to be part of a new infotainment system – correctly identified by item 4 in our list.

1. Reworked Horizontal Section Ahead Of The Screen

The horizontal part that extends towards the driver and houses the five physical controls for the infotainment system has been completely redesigned. It appears as if that section extends forward more on the 2019 Camaro compared to the 2016, 2017 and 2018 models. We imagine that the change was instituted to increase the surface area of the system in order to make it easier for users to place part of their palm on the surface when using the system, thereby increasing the comfort when using the system.

This change also brings about a slight revision to the row of controls:

  • The power/volume button moves up slightly, now residing in the center of the control row, rather than slightly below it in in the 2016-2018 models
  • A new chrome accent strip now outlines the top of the control row
  • The button closest to passenger changes to a phone control from a back button

2. Straight Bezel Corners

The revised shape of the horizontal section ahead of the screen results in a new bezel for the infotainment screen, as both the top and bottom corners feature straight edges. By comparison, the 2016-2018 models feature a bezel with rounded corners.

3. Thicker, Darker Bezel

The entire bezel of the 2019 Camaro looks to be slightly thicker than that of the 2016-2018 models. It’s also possible that the bezel now holds the screen in a different angle, though that could be a matter of the angle at which the spy photos were taken.

Also, notice that the entire center screen surround is now all black. By comparison, it is coated in a gray-brown color on the 2016, 2017 and 2018 Camaro.

4. New Infotainment System

Last but not least, the spy shots clearly show that the 2019 Camaro interior houses the latest Chevy infotainment system – as indicated by the new interface with bottom-placed quick access/shortcut buttons (Home, Music, Navigation, Phone) and system status bar (that shows signal strength of the OnStar system along with the signal strength and charge state of the paired cellular device at the bottom). The new system will likely deliver interface and speed updates to the already feature-rich MyLink infotainment system

There Might Be More

Overall, these updates are relatively minor, but we should note that the 2019 Camaro interior could deliver more updates that we simply don’t see in the spy shots, so stay tuned.

About 2019 Camaro

The 2019 Camaro will represent the fourth model year of the sixth-generation Chevrolet Camaro. Outside of re-arranged trim levels, equipment, features and associated pricing structures, the sports car will feature new front and rear facias – as shown by the camouflage on the front and rear ends of prototype models. Other updates are also possible, including changes to the interior and powertrain (in the form of new engines and transmissions), along with the introduction of a Z/28 model.

We expect Chevy to reveal the 2019 Camaro in the March-April 2018 timeframe, either at or in the vicinity of the 2018 New York International Auto Show.

  1. I would like to point out that the infotainment screen in the spy photo is the base 7″ screen currently in production. It looks very much like the one on my 2017 Camaro 1LS. A quick check on the Camaro build and price interior selections help confirm this.

    1. You’re correct. We’ve updated the story to reflect this. Thank you for pointing it out.

The interface of the infotainment system itself does appear to be the new-gen unit.

  2. Really? The “spy shot” interior is the same exact infotainment as the current 1LS 1LT interiors and your comparison photo is of the current ss 2lt interiors…… the dead giveaway is look at the cluster of the spy car it’s a base model with no digital screen.

  3. I thought same thing too, this looks like the base info system , it looks like its a base car from the gauges.

  5. A houndstooth option would be great

    1. That would be cool, I’d like to see them pull a few special editions out from the Camaros past, Mustang seems to have no problem doing that.

A blue and gold Mark Donahue edition?

      An IROC?

Something inspired by the 70’s Z28 graphics?

  8. The Camaro will likely stay with the 6 speed TR6060 due to the TR6070 7 speed apparently not fitting in the Alpha transmission tunnel, however the spy shots showing the 6 speed is the TR3160 used for the 3.6L and 2.0L engines based on the shift pattern of where reverse is, so that picture is not evidence of what transmission the V8 cars will have by itself.

  9. If you get a chance, look up, on line, the new Nascar Camaro ZL1 photos.

Look at the higher roof profile with the extra glass area, and then compare it to the current production model.

I wish the production model had the same roof and glass area.

  10. Gee, the headline got me all excited only to find it’s a nothing burger. When does the next gen Camaro come out because the ‘19 refresh looks pitifully inadequate to me?

Really in the market for a performance car. I’m a GM guy but I just can’t pull the trigger on this generation of Camaro. Too many warts at a bloated premium price. I don’t drive the N-ring so Chevy putting performance before ergonomics and suitability on public roads isn’t much of a selling point.

  11. If you don’t like this version of the camaro then you must not be a performance car guy! This current camaro is faster, handles better, brakes better then any camaro before and that’s still not good enough for you!

Sad it’s really sad! GM worked their tails off to produce the best muscle car ever and all people can focus on is the things that don’t make it go fast!

It’s a performance car and it should be judged by that!

    1. No, Brian, I want a performance car. I don’t find the performance of this generation of Camaro wanting. What I find wanting is the design of the Camaro which creates rotten ergonomics. I also can’t see paying $50,000 for a car (I’m looking at an 2SS convertible) with such a cheap interior that’s not particularly sporty and more fitting for a budget compact.

      1. I bet Steve is 350lbs and has just stepped out of his 6 cyl. Toyota SUV with a glass roof with a baby seat in the back seat. My 17′ SS 6speed manual is fast and wraps around me like a glove.

  12. Not really digging the all black dash look. Looks kind of plain and cheap, especially compared to the revised Mustang. A step backwards. Lets hope this is a stripper base model and that upper trims are nicer.

  13. What’s really funny of this photo above is the interior. The man has his phone blocking the AC/Heat vent…that phone holder is in the back seat. The phone isn’t for navigation because that is attached to the window.

Secondly…Notice the one cup holder with the key and other stuff in it…no space.

Third…The blue pen to the right of the phone, just stuffed into the dash. Yet whatever notebook is used for writing has long since disappeared. Maybe under the passenger seat?

Finally…I point out a single 12 volt outlet and the first thing plugged in is an adapter for 2 usb chargers…phone and GPS.

I own a 2ss… I just found it funny this shows real issues with the car that everyone already complains about and seen first hand here.
