Perhaps the biggest letdown from the 2019 Cadillac XT4 is the fact it will not feature Super Cruise, the brand’s hands-free driving system for the highway. Previous spy shots indicated the crossover was ready to roll with the system onboard.
However, Cadillac spokesperson, Donny Nordlicht, told Motor Authority in a Thursday report that Super Cruise will not be available at launch. He hinted it could come later in the vehicle’s lifecycle, but he did not float a clear introduction date. Cadillac President Johan de Nysschen also confirmed Super Cruise will not be available at launch.
But, the Cadillac boss said the system will “eventually” make its way to the XT4. He added the brand’s lifecycle strategy will see Super Cruise come at a later date.
That leaves the 2019 Cadillac CT6 as the only model equipped with the semi self-driving system. Super Cruise is a $5,000 option on the Premium Luxury trim, though it’s standard on the range-topping CT6 Platinum.

*sigh*
I thought GM said Cadillac was going to be their tech-savvy brand with all the gizmos before the other three got them?
Guess it won’t be a day 1 purchase for me
C’mon Cadillac, step up your game! No excuse for this. EVERY Cadillac should have Super Cruise as an option ASAP, no ifs ands or buts.
What about a Cadillac XT4 Vsport model as Cadillac’s new LSY 2.0L DOHC-4v 4-cyl turbo can’t be the XT4’s top engine option with just 235 horsepower on tap.
Making changes to super cruise system.
Maybe I am old fashion but I don’t think any lower models should get this feature like XT4, CT3 etc. I mean there needs to be a least a few features that stay exclusive to the people that fork over the big bucks for the most expensive vehicles in a brands lineup. I am not saying only the CT6 should offer it but I dont see the big deal In the lowest end models not offering it.
I’d rather they offer it ASAP to all models.
If everyone gets it they pay the price for it allowing GM to get their ROI faster on Super Cruise, also enabling them to put more money into R&D for Super Cruise 2.0 or whatever their next step is in semi-autonomy for ther vehicles
I think Cadillac realizes that a $5,000 option on the XT4 might be too much of an asking price for that model to be able to pull off. Cadillac need to bring the price of the Super Cruise down to maybe $2,500 to be an option on the XT4. I mean BMW doesn’t offer it on their X1, Mercedes doesn’t offer it on their GLA, Audi doesn’t offer it on the Q3. But hopefully Cadillac will offer it soon. Beat the competition to the punch.
I honestly think that once the updated XT5 gets the Super Cruise, it will be priced low enough where they can offer it on the XT4 as well. Super Cruise needs to be scaled up first to bring cost down. I am not upset that it isn’t on offer right now but it better be next model year.
True, and that reaffirms my point, the faster other products get it the faster it gets cheaper.
Im hoping by the time the 4 gets it, it’ll be 3,000
I wouldn’t mind a Platinum XT4 with everything and SC being maybe a 3,000 add on.
I’m amazed the XT5 hasn’t gotten it but I guess Cadillac is waiting for the MCR to offer it.
I wonder if the Escalade is gonna get it or if they’re waiting for the next generation?
I know the Escalade doesn’t have many years left in this generation but like I said the faster the products get it the cheaper it gets ASAP.
But then again, maybe they just can’t shove it in every product, I’m sure it’s harder then just putting a pretty green light on a steering wheel lol. But the XT4 I’m sure was developed with SC in the back of Cadillacs mind im sure they’re just waiting. That’s why I have decided to wait for the second model year hopefully Caddy adds it in the 2020 model year.
Sorry that became a rambling post lol
Cadillac either has confidence with their Super Cruise or they don’t; if they have confidence in their Super Cruise system then Cadillac should make Super Cruise available as an option or standard equipment throughout the fleet and if they don’t have confidence in the system then Cadillac is risking their reputation as Super Cruise failure could be more embarrassing than their CUE infotainment system.
What you said made no sense. SC is a $5K option. The upper trim XT4 models more than likely will get SC. For a vehicle that starts at $35k, it would be the only vehicle in its segment, provided no automaker beats Cadillac to it, to offer a true hands free autonomous technology in the future. Confidence or lack of it has nothing to do for the reason SC is not available at first. It will be offered later on during its life cycle.
Are you willing to paid these price for it? On these XT4 crossover ? It’s not standard or a option because of price. $5,000 option are going to paid that? There not going to put on any older models, it will be on these much newer models.
Screw it then. I’m getting a Sonic.
I am very disappointed with XT4 interior colors. Come on it is a Cadillac after all and it should offer at least 6 choices, for god sake even Lexus and Lincoln offer more
The SC is with out a doubt, the most advanced technology, being used to date and getting rave reviews. It does not make sense for this type of vehicle like the XT4 to get it first. More than likely, once the upper level to mid-level Cadillacs get this feature first, same as exclusive technical innovation firsts, XT4 should get this last alongside the CT4 as a lower luxury segment like these cars shouldn’t get the most advance technology first.
Are you willing to pay the extra money standard or option? These XT4 will cost more if standard, would you or anybody else pay $40,000 for XT4 crossover with SC on it? Would you pay $ 5,000 as a option, as it stands now if was on XT4 crossover?
Price is more important here than anything. Offering an option like this in an entry level vehicle is just pure foolishness.
Beside most here complaining were not going to be buyers of the XT4 let alone the system.
The price comes down with volum3 on higher end models that absorbe the higher end option price with its volume not low en$ models that it will cost more to put it in vs units sold.
SC should only be an option for Cadillacs high end vehicles , even Escalade doesn’t have it ( yet ) . The same with night vision , these systems are very expensive and would make no sense to add that type of cost to an entry level SUV .
GM has plenty of trust in SC or it wouldn’t be adding it to their flagship car . New tech like this should remain only with vehicles that are actually going to use it .
While I agree with you I have to also disagree.
I think it’s better to spread it out as much as possible.
If it should only be on their high end, then you also don’t agree with Tesla letting you pay for the AutoPilot upgrades on the model 3?
Since the 3 is Tesla’s “cheapest” car surely I shouldn’t be allowed to purchase and spend the money on AutoPilot upgrades for a model 3 since autopilot should be exclusive to the X and the S since those are Tesla’s flagships.
Now night vision I have no need for and I’m sure no XT4 owners need night vision lol
But still if I remember correctly a Chevy bolt has the rear view camera mirror yet the ATS doesn’t have it (correct me if im wrong on that but the ATS page makes no mention about the RCM)
But that’s more of a GM thing
Idk how they can give the little Bolt the RCM and not the new terrain or Acadia but a little 36ish thousand dollar car has it.
SC on the Escalade I wouldn’t doubt Cadillac is waiting for the next gen model to put it in, so I think it’s a no go for this generation unless they surprise me and do it for this design gen but that’s on them to wait and let others catch up.
Excuse the typos I’m on mobile and sorry for ranting but those are my thoughts
GM has produced a vehicle with Super Cruise, the CT6, so why does it seem to roll it out to other vehicles so slowly? GM should give the Super Cruise team an unlimited budget to get Super Cruise into every Cadillac model for MY20 then to be prepared to offer Super Cruise into MY21 top trim GMCs, Buicks and GMs best selling vehicle the Silverado in High Country trim…Super Cruise can now be a GM brand, major system upgrades can be first deployed to Cadillac before the other brands would be a great strategy…
Super Cruise technology is a new technology that needs to be rolled out with care.
As we have already seen Tesla and their system is already causing issues with another new death to add to other accidents.
GM can build these systems with every consideration yet the real world and foolish owners can always find something.
These systems as fool proof as they may be need time with the public to work out any remaining issues on the systems and with the public.
Hell half these people can’t figure out the menus on their HMI units.
How about a cheese option for the Whiners.
The problem is paying attention which Super Cruise addresses better than AutoPilot. It’s incredible rare to hear of an accident where someone rammed into something while using regular cruise control because they’re still steering and therefore feel connected. When one’s inputs are no longer controlling the vehicle some people do not have the concentration to remain attentive for the duration of the drive. Super Cruise adds a camera to track the drivers eyes which ensures they’re looking forward. Autopilot doesn’t track your eyes but therefore its up to the driver to resist the urge to respond to their latest cell phone notification.
The problem with waiting until these systems are fool proof is that if the driver wasn’t using the assistance systems as intended as they’re not paying attention…
