2019 Cadillac XT4 Priced To Start At $35,790

Cadillac is sticking to a familiar playbook with 2019 XT4 pricing. Along with the compact crossover’s reveal on Tuesday evening, the luxury brand announced the XT4 will start at $35,790, which includes a destination fee.

At a glance, that’s roughly $7,000 to $5,000 less expensive than the XT4’s direct rivals in size: the BMW X3, Audi Q5 and Mercedes-Benz GLC. With the pricing strategy, Cadillac will offer the XT4 as a rival to the compact German crossovers, but price it more like a sub-compact model.

With Cadillac’s new “Y” trim strategy, all models start with the new “base” Luxury trim level. From there, customers can pick either Premium Luxury or Sport models, which add their own unique content. In this case, a $35,790 XT4 should net 18-inch wheels, LED head and taillights, leatherette trim, power seats, rear-park assist, CUE and dual-climate control among other things.

Optional for the “base” Luxury trim are a sunroof, cold-weather package, Navigation radio with Bose audio, all-wheel drive and a trailering package.

Right now, the XT4 won’t take aim at V6-powered rivals and stick to a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder LSY engine with 237 horsepower and 258 pound-feet of torque. GM’s new nine-speed automatic handles shifting duties.

Of course, the options list is plentiful, and we have a feeling many XT4 won’t boast the $35,000 price tag after combing through available features and trim levels.

  1. Smart

Use aggressive pricing to help build a base and trust and then work from there. This is a good long range plan.

Kind of hard to convince people to buy a product like this for a higher price to see it depreciate much due to rebates that bring the price to this level anyways.

    1. Right or wrong, GM utilizes the incentive based sales model which includes usually a fixed month long targeted incentives…JDN has already been there for a while and even today, March 2018, there are multi-thousand off incentives on most Caddys…The XT5, I see $3000 off purchase cash allowance or $2000 lease loyalty before we look into targeted incentives such as Grad/Military…

GM recently tried an experiment with debuting a vehicle without incentives…Before that I have to mention the 2016 Gen2 Volt which only debuted in the ZEV states, the plan was to slowly roll it out to the remaining states but GM later elected to end the 2016 production cycle early and to start producing the 2017 Volt as nationwide starting in the spring of 2017…The ZEV only state 2016 Volt and the nationwide 2017 Volt both debuted with typical (generous) incentives…At the end of 2016, the 2017 Bolt EV debuted without any incentives ($250 off for employees)…GM has not and most likely will not ever give us a straight answer to why it debuted without incentives but the most popular theory is that GM saw the tremendous Model 3 demand from the 400k+ reservations and misunderstood how different demand between Model 3 and Bolt EV can be…Bolt suppliers leaked GM’s production target of 25K/year for the US before the Bolt even debuted which turned out to be fairly accurate…So if GM was really thinking the majority of Bolt’s will be sold before they arrive at dealership lots, they could attempt to withhold incentives as an experiment and they could always add incentives later if things didn’t work out…While things like the Suppliers/Farmers Bureau/Grad/Military/BuyPower GM credit card points to several thousand dollar GM vehicle discount redemptions could be used on any GM vehicles including niche high MSRP Escalades/Z06s/ZL1s, the Bolt EV was exempt…There was some very disappointed EV geeks who called their local dealerships months or in some cases years to “reserve” one of the dealerships Bolt EV allocation slots as they wanted to be one of the first in their neighborhood to drive a Bolt EV…But GM wouldn’t let them redeem their BuyPower points that can be worth several thousands…After only four short months after the Bolt EVs incentive-less debuted, GM decided added the usually full suite of incentives…Now like the 3-state-only Spark EV, the Bolt EV on certain months can be the cheapest Chevy vehicle to lease BEFORE state/local any tax incentives are even factored in…

  3. Good move. After rebates and incentives, the price would fall to this point anyway. Now Cadillac can hold firm on the prices and hopefully mitigate quick depreciation that has plagued other heavily incentivized models (CTS). Get the younger crowd early on at this price, then hold on to them as they progress in their careers and can afford more expensive vehicles later.

I hope we see more live pictures of the different trims and color options soon, especially the interior color options.

  5. The interior/dash is a little too minivan feeling for me. It’s nice, but it’s something I’d expect in top trim Odyssey.

    1. And far too much black for my liking. Needs to be some color contrast in there somewhere.

    2. I don’t know about your comparison but you make me agree that the interior is lacking. Really —

      — an INCREDIBLE interior should be Cadillac’s trademark. (Again?) When I was a kid I remember that being IN a Caddy was most of the experience.

This is really a way to make the brands at GM make more sense.

Chevy — okay interior but nothing to write home about (Silver)
Buick/GMC — a nicer interior than Chevy (Gold)
      Cadillac — wow! (Diamonds)

      1. There is so much Cadillac can do to an interior for a vehicle that starts at $35K on a budget.

Nothing wrong with the interior. Could they add more glitz and chrome like on the buttons on the doors, steering wheel and etc. Yes but it would not be cost effective. The interior is fine and adequate as is.

Ride quality, spirited handling, refinement, technology, features and tight fit and finish is more important, same as for styling too.

  6. Does everyone love everything about the XT4? No –

But it does fill a couple of gaps in the Cadillac line-up – namely size and relative affordability (although you’d guess a ‘good’ one is going to be $40+).

So please, market it, in a Tier 1 way.

And don’t be shy about marketing the CT6 V-Sport: not a volume leader, but is a halo-ish, statement vehicle that says good things are afoot @ Cadillac.

    Onward.

  7. 1. Those who buy vehicles at MSRP are the minority within a minority…55% of all luxury vehicles are leased, therefore the XT4’s national lease offer is far more important than MSRP…

    2. If I click on the XT4s GMA hyperlink, it states the XT4s rivals are the Lexus NX, Acura RDX, Lincoln MKC, Infiniti QX50
and the Volvo XC60 which is NOT the big German 3…This is actually WORST for Caddy, Lexus and Infiniti for example load up their base models with lots of content include standard active safety tech and/or ACC in an attempt to attract the German CUV shoppers along with offering some very attractive lease…Right now for March the Acura RDX has a steal of lease, reported on the “lease hacker” site folks are getting $0 drive off sign and $320/mo all in yet this wasn’t their national offer.

    3. JDN/GM, this is your opportunity to make a splash on the XT4 sales…Add active safety tech standard such as AEB and blind spot monitoring (keep supercruise optional) and offer a lease deal that’s inline with all luxury CUV rivals…

  8. It’s just a car folks. The price is about what a Chevrolet Equinox Premier costs. I’s rather have the EQUINOX.

    1. I was thinking the same thing. I went to the Chev website, and had another look at the new Equinox. More room, maybe better looking, nice interior, similar engine (more power, but maybe not as smooth? We’ll see). The Equinox reviews say it rides really nicely, and handles well.
I’m not too keen on the back end of the XT4, nor the interior based on photos. Also, how can a Honda CR-V that is almost the same size outside, have almost double the cargo space??

    2. The real XT4 threat to GM isn’t their lowest badged Equinox, it’s Buick and GMC…

      1. True, but regardless if one shops and decides on Buick or GMC over XT4, its a win for GM, the same for the customer as well.

  10. I really like the XT4. But, wondering, is that hard black plastic on the lower inside door trim?

  11. It’s just another small crossover with a 4 cylinder engine. What is the fascination? Because it has squinty headlights and a cadillac emblem? “Leatherette” interior? The interior looks no better than an equinox premier, actually I prefer the equinox–the controls are more intuitive, dash is cleaner looking. There are a million of these small crossovers on the market. I think people are attributing so much more magic to this car than there really is. Yea the 4cyl turbo will be nice. But its not significantly different than most of the other powerplants in this segment. The car really looks pretty “base”. Of course, I’m always open to being surprised. Maybe if you actually sit in it, it’ll feel like a cadillac. Maybe. Once you load this thing with all the options, suddenly its a 58k car and its not so “competitive” anymore. They can get away with that in performance cars, but with a car like this they won’t be able to bank on the cadillac emblem as much.

    1. We don’t know how much the price will be maxed out post options. A good percentage will take advantage of Luxury while the rest will be split between Premium Luxury and Sport.

If a good chunk of the percentages are Premium Luxury and Sport w/o post options, nothing wrong with it as long there’s butts in the seats. A select few will optioned out this vehicle like any vehicle in any segment.

And who thinks a fisher price plastic bumper is luxury?
I guess it matches all the cheap black plastic on the inside.
