John Davis has had seat time in a near never-ending list of cars over the decades, but in a recent episode of MotorWeek, he gave the 2018 Chevrolet Traverse a go.
MotorWeek put the 2018 Traverse through its usual battery of tests and found the three-row crossover up to the task of hauling families around, especially in plush High Country trimmings. The overall consensus was that Chevrolet did enough to be competitive in a highly contested segment.
The standard 3.6-liter V6 engine, which carries over from the previous Traverse, never felt overwhelmed, but never powerful either, per the review. What was most appreciated was the nimbler driving feel, though the test car didn’t feel as solid as rival crossovers.
General Motors milked the previous-generation Traverse for all it could, but the second-generation CUV amplifies what made the first model such a success; it’s still all about minivan cargo and usability without the stigma. Check out the review up above.
Chevrolet’s Traverse is another vehicle that could use the 2.7L Opposed Piston engine being tested in the 2019 Chevy Silverado; the 2.7L OP has 270 horsepower and 450 lbs-ft of torque as well as capable of achieving 37 mpg in the Silverado would give the Traverse the torque necessary given it’s 3-row seating.
IF you told John Davis it was a JAP car, he would have LOVE IT
I think they should give a Traverse Hybrid and a Plugin Hybrid versions out ( with an electric AWD ) . This would really make 40+mpg traverse.
Electric assist should definitely be in the works
electric assist should not be called as hybrid , i think it should be part of base model or volume seller model ( eassist with a little bigger motor to make electric only reverse and move from zero + dynamicskip fire ) . The Full hybrid and Plugin hybrids should be on top models (like toyota do ) .
The 2009 Saturn Vue 2 mode hybrid was expected to have 28/31 MPG . With new Voltec , i assume they should be able to go least to 35 mpg range on Traverse.
