“Fast Eddie” has owned this 1969 Triumph TR6 for over 40 years, and the monstrous V8 under the hood was bought new by his parents back in the ’70s. The engine is a Pontiac V8, originally 400 cubic-inches in displacement, that’s been stroked to 488-cubic-inches, fitted with an enormous 91-millimeter Garrett turbocharger, and mated to a 4L80-E automatic.
With this turbocharged, Pontiac-powered Triumph, Fast Eddie’s been blasting through the quarter-mile in the 8-second range – not too shabby for a vintage British sportscar with an aging V8 under the hood.
After one of the runs, Fast Eddie misjudged how much runway was left and thought the driver in the right lane was going to turn in front of him, which led to a wheel-locking-brake-check. At 100+ miles per hour, the skid caused him to lose control of the car, and it went careening into the grass. Fortunately, the area was clear, and the feisty TR6 drove away unscathed, with Fast Eddie asking, “is there a laundromat around here somewhere?”
