Despite a rather uncertain future, the Chevrolet Impala still finds a lot of love, and it’s earned another award. Consumer Reports named the large Chevy sedan its best “Large Car” for 2018.
The guide found much to like in the Impala’s well-aged design with intuitive cockpit controls inside. Trimmings and materials are high-quality, per the publication, and its driving dynamics continue to present themselves as akin to a luxury vehicle.
The recognition focuses on the optional 3.6-liter V6 engine, which the guide found smooth and abundant with power, and the Impala’s poised ride and commendable handling were stars during a slew of tests.
Kelley Blue Book also awarded the Impala its “Best Buy” award for large cars last year after noting similar positive attributes. The publication also said the value factor is very strong. Every Impala comes with keyless entry and push-button start, there’s an eight-inch touchscreen and a handy rearview camera is standard.
We don’t know what will become of the Impala as the Chevrolet Malibu closes in on its size, but for now, Chevy’s full-size sedan remains a star.

When CONSUMER REPORT give you good reviews is saying something seeing as how they seem to be bias toward GM products. All the more reason that GM need to show the Impala some much needed love and do a proper upgrade and way more advertising. When you have a great product let the world know about it. Offer a Police special and offer it to the public like they did with the mid 90’s Impala. They don’t have to call it an SS just an proper name to classify it as being a special model.
Consumer Reports was bias against GM cars in the past. So GM is doing it better, and you are complaining? Are you Asian or European?
What part do you consider complaining? The fact that consumer report gave a good report on the Impala or that GM could give the Impala a little more love?
I think VCAT meant to write that Consumer Reports is biased “against” GM.
Thanks for the correction.
the impala needs a awd model with the death of the xts we should offer a 49k awd impala for the north east and north west ford and chrysler both have value awd sedans the fwd is great but that would boost life back into the impala also offer the twinturbo six we put in the xtsvsport or the atsv and make a ss model midnight edition …..i know im dreaming well back to selling this ls equinox with the unpainted mirrors for 149 per month …
Not enough rear headroom. This another reason why people are not buying large cars when it is a better Value to buy an Acadia/Traverse with more room everywhere for both people and cargo. That said, would be an awesome road trip car.
GM needs to examine Chryslers lack of success of bring back previous nameplates for just one or two life cycles before they again kill them. Chrysler can’t get anyone to buy those cars because no one has any loyalty to this.
The impala needs to be GM’s Camry!
Too bad it’s not RWD, but an AWD with a performance version would go a long way!

Make sedans rwd both small and large to get people to buy cars instead of cuvs!
Most CUVs are fwd based, so how exactly would making cars RWD help get people interested in them instead? Large drivetrain humps to reduce passenger space, reduced foul weather traction? Cars need to be more practical, with more rear headroom, better visibility, larger trunk openings, flip and fold rear seats, fold flat front seats and other things that people are buying CUVs for. They need to stop reducing ground clearance so that you can’t even clear a parking bumper without scuffing the bumper paint. Also, AWD needs to be offered on just about everything. Most new car buyers are not enthusiasts, if cars are to survive they need to keep up.
Next generation GM should replace Malibu in North America with Impala. A quality large car at a mid-sized price will be a segment buster capable of besting Nissan and Ford.
Impala is one of my favorite RENTALS due to its excellent handling. I feel like GM, VW, and, oddly, FCA, cars handle best leaving the top-rated Asian mass market value brands in the dust.
i have had 4 Impalas and 1 Caprice Classic (overall same as an Impala). These all were wonderful cars. I currently have a 2014 Impala one of the best cars I have ever had. I have purchased 25 new GM vehicles (cars & trucks) Buick, Pontiac, Oldsmobile and Chevrolet. I think the Impala is a great value for the price. One thing I do not understand is why Chevrolet doesn’t advertise the Impala, when was the last time you seen a Impala commercial? I went to a car focus group a few years ago they had 5 cars of different brands with the emblems covered, (some people actually didn’t know one brand from another) we each drove them and evaluated each brand. When they revealed what the brand each car was most could not believe car #C was a Chevrolet Impala. Most thought the Impala was from a foreign manufacture. If GM would advertise the Impala my guess the would sure sell more.
GM can even redesign this generation of impala or just add to it an AWD option and AN SS with the LF3 464 hp twin turbo 3.6 V6. Or go to next generation on the Alpha 2 RWD, with many trims from a base L propled with tthe 2.0 four cylinder to the the premier trim. Chevrolet can add a hybrid Impala. Team developers of Chevrolet can add two sports version, an RS AWD with the LF3 464 hp and an SS with the LT4 650 hp. In this circumstance GM replaces two cars the XTS Vsport and the dead Chevrolet SS. Hope that someone at GM will read my comment a makes it real.
sadly all of the full size cars are being replaced by SUV’s & CUV’s.
I sure hope they change their minds and give this car at least one more MCE before scrapping it and don’t let it go another 3 model years with no changes. Swap in the powertrain from the 2018 Traverse with the 310 HP 3.6 mated to the new 9 speed with better performance and MPG, swap in the 2.5 eAssist setup from the LaCrosse, freshen up the interior and update the front and back end with LED headlights and your good for at least 3-4 more model years.
I’m like Dennis Byard. I’ve had six Impalas and one Caprice , a red 1973 one which is still my all time favorite. These cars are the most reliable, and my 2014 Impala LT2 does get 29 miles on a trip. Sure ‘nuf–My 2012 Silverado falls way short of the 21 it claimed, though. Keep the Impala and advertise it and people will buy it. It’s almost like they want to kill it off. Many of us don’t want a Toyota or any of those type cars.
Thanks for the something totally new you have disclosed in your article. One thing I would really like to comment on is that FSBO interactions are built as time passes. By launching yourself to the owners the first few days their FSBO is usually announced, ahead of the masses begin calling on Mon, you create a good link. By sending them tools, educational elements, free reports, and forms, you become the ally. If you take a personal affinity for them and also their circumstances, you produce a solid link that, on many occasions, pays off if the owners decide to go with a realtor they know along with trust — preferably you actually.
