The GM Authority Take
Buick LaCrosse sales jumped in January, enabling the model to outsell all others in its segment while also posting the highest growth rate. The impressive performance can be directly attributed to very attractive incentives on 2017 models, specifically including $7,000 of total cash allowance (comprised of $6,250 Bonus Cash plus $750 Customer Cash) and a 0 percent APR for 72 months plus $2,000 (when financed through GM Financial).
The LaCrosse outsold the Lexus LS by 366 units and the Lincoln MKZ by 1,230 units (see Lincoln MKZ sales). Prior to January’s attractive incentives, LaCrosse sales have been on a downward spiral due to the following factors:
- An ongoing change in consumer buying dynamics that favors crossover utility vehicles (CUVs/SUVs) over sedans
- A lack of focus on selling the vehicle at Buick dealers, partially caused by a lack of proper incentives at the corporate level
- A potential lackluster market reception to the current, third-generation LaCrosse
Going forward, we expect LaCrosse deliveries to continue at their current, depressed pace unless something is done at the marketing or retail sales levels to boost sales. Otherwise, Buick will be offloading LaCrosse inventory to fleets or at retail with high levels of incentives, or further cutting production of the model, all of which sap profit from the model.

About Buick LaCrosse
The Buick LaCrosse is a full-size premium sedan that slots above the compact Buick Verano and midsize Buick Regal. The current, third-generation LaCrosse was introduced for the 2017 model year. The vehicle is based on the long wheelbase variant of the GM E2 platform. The short-wheelbase variant of the same platform is shared with the sixth-generation Buick Regal and ninth-generation Chevrolet Malibu.
The 2018 model introduced several new colors, the GM 9-speed automatic transmission in place of the 2017 model’s 8-speed. It also added a new standard powertrain in the form of the mild-hybrid 2.5L engine with eAssist coupled with a six-speed automatic transmission. In addition, the 2018 LaCrosse Avenir is introduced to serve as the range-topping model.
For North America, the Buick LaCrosse is built exclusively at the GM Detroit Hamtramck factory operated by GM USA. A GM China factory produces the vehicle for China.

Good! This is a great looking car, which I love seeing on the road.
I sense February’s increase is going to the rental fleets as the local Buick dealers have great deals on CPO ‘17s on the lot now. CARFAX saying they were rentals.
I thought we covered this already, did I miss something?

Knocking 8-9 grand off the sticker will have a positive effect on sales for sure. All of my local Buick dealers haver cleared out all but the most expensive 50K plus models and that is only at one dealer. The funny thing is that I have yet to see another 2018 model show up anywhere with the 9 speed or the eAssist version. They seem to be really hard to find.
