2019 Silverado Interior: Will It Have An Oversized Sunroof?

The jury on still out on the 2019 Silverado interior. While some are satisfied with the cabin of the all-new truck, others aren’t entirely impressed with the interior (just look at some of the comments on this article). And we feel that another point of contention could be related to the sunroof.

Currently, it is unknown whether or not the all-new 2019 Silverado will offer an oversized sunroof. What we do know is that the Crew Cab models of the 2019 Silverado displayed at the 2018 North American International Auto Show in Detroit featured a cutout in the ceiling above the second-row seats in the shape of a sunroof. Interestingly, the cutout was not filled with an actual glass panel for a sunroof – but was instead filled with headliner materials, which could not be retracted.

Conversely, Chevrolet has yet to fully announce the complete specs and features of the 2019 Silverado, including the 2019 Silverado interior  This makes us believe that the 2019 Silverado will offer a dual-pane sunroof rather than a single-glass, panoramic unit.

By contrast, the 2019 Silverado’s primary competitors – the 2018 Ford F-150 and 2019 Ram Truck – both offer a panoramic sunroof, which arguably makes for a more impressive presentation, at the least, and is superior to a dual-pane setup, at the most – as a panoramic sunroof provides an uninterrupted view of the sky.

We expect to find out more details on the 2019 Silverado, including the 2019 Silverado interior, along with its features and whether or not there will be an oversized sunroof, after GMC announces its all-new 2019 Sierra on March 1. Until then, stay tuned to GM Authority for around-the-clock Silverado news coverage.

  1. Doesn’t the current gen have the same cut out it’s for rear seat headroom for taller people. I have it in my 16 all terrain. And if you look at models without a sun roof the flat metal is only around the normal sized sun roof rest of the roof has lines. I doubt they would produce two whole different designs.

Also in the LEFT LANE TRUCKS video they interviewed one of the lead designers and he was asked about an panoramic roof and he gave no implication that was upcoming.

  2. Might let them get the GMC out first as it may be standard on the Denali and will be show cased there first.

Odds are they are not giving a no is because they are not done yet.

At this point they have not even given us the V6 type yet.

This is a 8 month intro as they are going to trickle out info till the intro.

  3. I hope so. As noted, a panoramic roof would be better, but I suppose a dual pain will do. Ford and Ram are really stepping it up in terms of interior quality and features. Now, this average Silverado interior could be all part of the plan, and the Sierra will offer the knock-out higher level interior for more differentiation. We will have to wait for March for more details and clarification.

  4. I say not a chance that will happen, like an earlier post said the currant generation truck also has that same cutout in the headliner. I too saw the interview with that engineer and that exact question was asked of him and he about flat out said no bigger sunroofs.

  5. Just install on after you buy the truck! I don’t understand why people are so afraid of the aftermarket world! With just about any system on the truck there is a aftermarket item that will work.

The people that talk about having problems with these add-ons is just non sense. This is why I don’t go crazy when a truck or car doesn’t offer a option. Because having that option installed by either me or the dealer will not keep me from buying the car or truck I want and have all the features I want.

    1. If you want a big sunroof, just buy a King Ranch. Simple!

  6. If we look at the mixed material photos above, 7 up from the bottom, left most and the one next to it, we can see there appears to a “steel” beam that goes across that area…With that being said it could be removed and the cabin reinforced elsewhere…

  7. Most vehicles have designated roof panels and are assembled with additional
    supports.

The days of just cutting a hole in the roof are long gone at the factory.

The metal is so thin anymore they need to do it differently.

  8. Anytime I read these articles about panoramic sun roofs in trucks I just shake my head. I just don’t get the allure. The one and only time I had a car with a sun roof it broke about 3 years in and I probably only used it 20 times. It was nothing but a PITA. Ex-wife got a sunroof in her honda accord, broke within the first year.

    1. If something breaks in the first year or after 20 uses, it wasn’t engineered right and the automaker will spend a boatload on warranty repairs and fending off class action lawsuits…

  10. I’ve seen that raised headliner in the rear too and sometimes it’s for better headroom .
I don’t think we will see a panaramic sunroof , but just a standard type for the front passengers .
I like sunroofs and really like the one in the SRX and XT5 , but that’s just personal preference . When you have a typical black interior , opening that sunroof gives it a more airy feeling and even closed it lets the light in . Personally if you want a sunroof . let it happen in the factory instead of after market . You get a better fit and a better structurally sound roof that has the correct cut out and flanges .

  11. Panoramic sun roof, superior? Especially in a roll over! Let’s go AMC Pacer style, all glass!
