2019 Silverado 1500: Chevrolet To Offer Four Different Tailgates With New Truck

The reveal of the 2019 Silverado 1500 has come and gone, but here at GMAuthority, we still have scoops aplenty. Chevrolet has insisted that there’s going to be a truck for everyone, thanks to no less than eight variants right out of the gate, as well as various cab and box configurations. And we have also exclusively learned that there will be multiple tailgates.
“You can buy four different tailgates,” according to a 2019 Silverado 1500 engineer. Though it’s unclear if these various tailgates will be available a-la-carte, they can be unlocked by spending on premium trim levels.
“If you buy a work truck, you get a standard gate. It will still come down slowly (like it does now), and they’re all aluminum tailgates (unlike now) so they’re very light, too. Then there’s one with the power-down, and then power-up and down that you get in LTZ and High Country.”
The new aluminum tailgates in the 2019 Silverado 1500 with the power lift and lower features can be controlled in various ways, including a button on the key fob, buttons near the gate handle, and from toggle switch on the center console in the cabin. However, there’s no foot-motion controlled feature, as seen on various crossovers and SUVs. Considering how often whatever object being carried back there tends to get loaded in with both hands, we found this puzzling, and marked it as one of the few head-scratchers in what we think the 2019 Silverado 1500 is leaving on the table. Maybe it will be a premium feature arbitrarily reserved for the upcoming 2019 GMC Sierra 1500, but we doubt it. We’ll have to wait until Thursday, March 1 – when the all-new 2019 GMC Sierra will make its debut – to know for sure.

So what’s the fourth tailgate option? Might it be a foot-controlled power-up-and-down tailgate?
Perhaps a “Chevrolet” stamp delete option?
Why would you want to remove the Chevrolet
GM conducted 7,000 Customer interviews In developing the MY19 Silverado, what did they learn? First GM statement, “customers want more CHOICES”…The customer who desires a “sleek” by purchasing a roll pan would most likely prefer a smooth tailgate…
Foot controlled tailgates….. i can see the perceived convienence but…. Do people not think,” I should put the tailgate down before I have my hands full.”?
Do people not think to bring a flashlight to work around the truck bed instead of needing a spotlight shining from the cab?
Four tailgates….Cool. They should also offer four fenders. One could be the ugly ass fender delete option.
Having seen how steel tailgates in working trucks get seriously dinged and dented in no time at all wonder how that aluminium one will hold up on a truck that works for a living?
PapaJim says this is hogwash. Everyone should get the standard tailgate and lift their own tailgate.
Stamped tailgate that says Overpriced?
I don’t have a problem with badges. But I think if I have to run around with a billboard on the back of my truck, Chevy should be paying, me.
That is such a bazar statement, I’m going to assume it’s a joke. Chevy built it. Why would they not have their name or logo on it?
That’s ridiculous in my opinion. A person should take pride in what he owns.
I think you would be hard pressed to find someone that just dropped 50K on a vehicle that they don’t take pride in.
As for choices, I’d like more than 3 choices for interior colors. They’ve got a process to select from 3 on the assembly line, and it would not be hard to add red, blue and brown. I’d like to see the full name “chevrolet” on the back of my Silverado. I’d also like to see a transmission dipstick. (FYI, they’re gone on Ford, GM and Tundra.) 8 years down the road, if you develop a tans leak you can’t check it and you can’t add fluid. You’ve gotta get it to a lift to get under the truck. VERY bad design.
I would like to buy a LTZ with heavy trailering package with a Z71 package but you can’t have both unless you add parts yourself and make it
So what’s the problem? Add the parts!
Its not the problem that I can’t add the parts myself, the problem is that GM is not smart enough to sell the customer what he wants when they already sell what I want but not smart enough to sell both options on the same truck
You understand that to get the Max Trailer package you need heavier duty shocks rather than the Rancho’s right?
