2019 Sierra Reveal: GMC’s Full-Size Pickup Set For A March Debut

Last December, GM Authority reported the 2019 GMC Sierra would not make an appearance at the 2018 North American International Auto Show. Ditto for the 2018 Chicago Auto Show. After the solid intel, we know the 2019 Sierra reveal will take place on March 1.

According to a formal invitation from GMC, the 2019 Sierra will bow at a standalone event separate from the auto show circuit. GMC will also show the 2019 Sierra Denali at the event alongside more pedestrian trims.

This was the time in years General Motors revealed its two full-size pickups separate from each other. The 2019 Chevrolet Silverado first showed up at a Chevy truck centennial celebration last December ahead of its full reveal at the 2018 NAIAS. The 2019 Silverado handed us a few clues of what to expect from the 2019 Sierra, but details are still scarce.

We’ll more than likely see an identical powertrain lineup shared between the 2019 Silverado at the 2019 Sierra reveal. So far, we know six different powertrains will round out the portfolio, but Chevrolet only mentioned three at the Silverado’s reveal: a 5.3-liter V8, 6.2-liter V8 and the new 3.0-liter Duramax inline-six diesel engine. The two V8 engines will also boast Dynamic Fuel Management to increase efficiency.

The 2019 Sierra will wear a very different design from the Silverado. Spy shots have shown a blockier and more upright front end, which contrasts the 2019 Silverado’s streamlined, sharper and rounder look overall. Inside, if the 2019 Silverado is any clue, the Sierra will likely boast a familiar layout to the outgoing 2018 model.

Stay tuned for more information as we approach the 2019 Sierra’s reveal. Also look for a refreshed Chevrolet Colorado and GMC Canyon this year, too.

  1. GM has show they are moving the two trucks apart in styling and marketing. I expect to see them continue to grow apart.

The Styling will be more like we are used to here but the nose will be more like the Terrain as it is the new face of GMC with the Acadia being the transitional face.

I expect the Denali, Sierra and All Terrain and hope they may surprise us with some special models?

The folks wanting squared off fenders will still have them here just will a little more curve to them.

  2. The Canyon and Colorado need a huge refresh.. better use of room inside cab. Better materials.. upgrade the damned things.. They are stale.

    1. the goal of the Colorado was to compete with the Tacoma and just beat by a little it in every way. It will advance with the reintroduction of the ranger that will provide fresh compettion

    2. I wouldn’t say they need a “huge” refresh as they’re already at the top of the class, but they could use some updates to keep them fresh. Some nicer materials wouldn’t hurt, but in terms of cab space, I’m not sure how much more space you’re going to get from a body on Frame truck this size without significantly increasing the width or rood height.

The new ranger is out, but from what I’ve seen, that truck doesn’t really raise the bar in any way, but merely matches the Colorado. I think when the new Nissan frontier comes (which doesn’t seem to be any time soon) it’ll shake things up, but right now, the Colorado/Canyon are leading the way.

    3. The midsize twins are only 3 years old. They don’t need a huge refresh.

    4. I agree.. in terms of exterior size and capability they are my ideal vehicle. I live 8 miles off the nearest highway and a true 4×4 would be a blessing. In terms of interior space is just isn’t what I expected for a “mid-size” truck, too small for 2 adults and two infant/toddler seats. So far sticking it out with my CUV and breaking the front fascia every winter.

  3. Current gen Sierra already has cooled seats…Wonder what features the Denali will gain over the Silverado?
    ACC?
    Supercruise?
    10.2″/larger Screen?

  4. Offering the Denali with its own engine like the 6.2 V-8 and the diesel as an option would be smart move .
It would be a way to keep it farther away from Silverado , instead of just trim pieces and wheel designs . Also glad to see that the wheel wells still have a somewhat squared off look .
Hope the reveal is in Detroit , they could use some good news .

  5. These GM full size twins are going to destroy the truck market! GM is not playing around any more and it’s showing!

  6. Will be excited to hear about the latest specs and a deeper evaluation of the new front suspension. From what I have seen so far, I’m impressed.

  7. The ONLY thing GMC will get that Chevy doesn’t is the Denali. Chevy is the lead brand and they will NOT give up any competitive advantage like an engine or bigger screen. GMC exists as the step brother to Chevy. Went to GMC to renew my crew cab lease and was blown away by the payment! No way am I driving a plastic squeaky Ram!! Went to Chevy and the identical truck (Chevy MSRP $50,489. GMC MSRP $50,940) Chevy rebates were twice that of GMC???? $100 less a month for Chevy
