Ask Away: We’re Driving The 2019 Buick Envision

This week, GM Authority is off to the great state of Georgia to drive the 2019 Buick Envision, which is getting a midcycle refresh for the 2019 model year. So, we are asking for your questions about Buick’s freshened compact crossover.

Whether it’s about powertrain, design, features or anything in between, we’ll do our best to get an answer for your questions. So go ahead and ask your questions in the comments section below, but please note that it may be 48 hours before we return with relevant answers. Without further ado, ask away.

We’ll be driving the 2018 Buick Regal GS at the same time, so ask your questions about that model at this link.

Buick has asked media attendees of the Envision drive to hold information (including replies to your questions) until Monday, February 26. We will answer your questions on Monday.

  1. Does it still smell like its made of cheap dollar store plastic?

    1. So like a Dodge?

      1. So said the dollar store cowboy…

        1. All the cowboys are in America. You already know where to find them.

      1. Why bother. You just don’t like the idea that you, personally, can’t dictate what China does with the money it makes on the stuff it sells to Americans.

And I wouldn’t uphold manufacturing jobs as something worth fighting for; the high-dollar jobs are known as ‘careers’, and those are the ones you want to keep in America. Besides, the lowest American minimum wage is still much higher than what an American multi-national corporation can pay to a Chinese worker.

If you want your low-paying, high-turnover rate, manufacturing jobs in Bumphoque TX, then you can look forward to having your precious iPhone to cost $1K higher than what it is now.

No need to scroll down where the low-lifes are; you haven’t got a stable vantage point in the first place.

  2. How’s the 9-speed auto?

  3. It would be very interesting to poll 100 Envision owners/lessee’s to see how many know the vehicle is assembled in China? Of those who know (I’m guessing fewer than 10%), do they care?

    Reply
    1. Shows you how stupid the public has become from the public education system we have. Ignorance and stupidity is no excuse.

Maybe owners should learn how they are contributing to China’s pollution issue (worst in the world) because factories there do not have to meet strict restrictions like other countries…Or how buying a Chinese vehicle contributes to the massive trade deficit the U.S. has with China, costing Americans high-quality jobs…Etc Etc.

      Other than that…

      Reply
  4. Why not just go to China and drive it. That vehicle has absolutely nothing to do with the great state of Georgia. Georgia is firmly Mercedes Benz territory. The Mercedes Benz Dome, Mercedes USA headquarters. Buick doesn’t even sponsor a golf tournament there anymore.

    Reply
    1. Ah so using that rhetoric, we’d have to drive the Regal in Germany and the last-gen Camaro in Canada… right?

      Reply
      1. Exactly, LAST-GEN CAMARO NOT NOW. Due to pressure from union members and Americans in general, the Camaro was brought home to the U.S. from Canada 3 years ago and now providing Americans with jobs and money for towns around them. An American icon is finally built again in America and everything seems to be just fine, proving their was no need to go to Canada in the first place.

Hey, Alex, if you havent noticed Americans are tired of unfair trade pacts (NAFTA) and funneling their hard-earned money to other countries that clearly benefit more than we do off the backs of American companies. Your globalist view is not held by most Americans anymore as they saw their high-quality jobs and security shipped of to other countries. We are tired of other countries leeching off our hard work and watching the U.S. crumble as a result. If those countries are so smart and hard-working, I am sure they can build some great companies of their own, right?

        Reply
        1. The F body was built in Canada as well.
I don’t understand why you feel Canada is stealing American Jobs.
Economically as a whole, Canada sells America Raw Materials, America Sells Canada manufactured goods.
Canada sells – Steel, Copper, Wood, Oil, Vegetables, Electricity
America sells – Appliances, Tools, Automobiles, Gasoline, Diesel, Packaged foods

There are Finished goods leaving Canada to the US and Raw Materials Going the other way but the US is a Value Added economy where Canada is a Natural Resource economy. That’s how Canada and the US have been so successful in the past but Struggling now as China can cheaply exploit natural resources, exploit manpower and build products cheaply.

        2. GMforLife – you’re way off.

Camaro production was moved to Michigan not because of any pressure from any unions but rather because production of all Alpha-platformed cars was consolidated at the Lansing Grand River plant due to obvious logistical and manufacturing efficiencies. The decision and change had nothing to do with intangible, non profit-making subjectivity like an “American icon” being built in America… but rather because of dollars and cents. So that throws your theory about that whole situation right out the window.

I will ask you this: where do you think the profit of selling the Envision go?

Other than that, you are not at all familiar with what my views, so I welcome you to not make any overarching decisions based on little to no information.

  5. Does it make you feel ill if you sit in it too long?

I recall how people were getting sick from Chinese flooring and Chinese drywall and didn’t understand why. Their doctors were stumped too so one wonders, does driving an Envasion and sitting for hours amongst all its Chinese made materials induce any of the following symptoms:

    – irritated and itchy eyes and skin
    – difficulty in breathing
    – persistent cough
    – bloody nose
    – runny nose
    – recurrent headaches
    – sore throats
    – sinus infections
    – asthma attacks

    Reply
    1. Over half of those problems would have be avoided if you wore dust masks when installing drywall. Doesn’t matter where it comes from; airborne particles of any kind are a slow motion killer.

    2. I just wrote above. Check it out.

Wonder why even dog food has been banned from China…

But, hey, if you want to contribute to a communist state that steals American and other countries’ technology and know-how, has made it clear it wants to rule the world, and is using a massive trade deficit (surplus for them) to weaken the U.S. to accomplish its goals, well go ahead and buy one.

At least we finally have a leader that finally wants to protect American jobs and quality of life. We might not be able to stem the tide of all companies manufacturing overseas (plastic trinkets for dollar stores are fine), but we can try to re-establish ourselves and our country through the intelligent re-evaluation of our econmy and industries to better protect our quality of life for future generations. Auto manufacturing are quality jobs that support communities as a large and R&D critical to our future. Thankfully our President gets this and has brought back many plants, stopped others from going, and attracted new multi-billion auto plant investments from Japan and elsewhere.

  6. Kinda just wish some people would just grow a pair about things made in China. Yes we all know in the past the quality from China can be pos but I’m pretty sure in cars they do set high expectations. Even GAC is coming over from China so… get your head out of the rear end

  7. GM is probably the leading importer of Chinese vehicles into North America. In addition to the Envision, GM imports Chinese vehicles into Mexico that are so primitive as to be unsafe. No airbags, not even seat belts for all passengers. (Read it here 1st, GM Authority). As customary, GM takes the low road toward customers and employees as long as the bonuses get larger for top management.

    1. Customary? Wanna give examples?

      1. Already forgot about the billion dollar ignition switch fiasco? How many GM customers died in that one ?

        Reply
        1. Well were those parts made in china?

          Reply
          1. Brian – the issue with the ignition switches was not where they were made, but rather that they were engineered defectively IN THE USA… and the defect was covered up by GM employees IN THE USA.

Plants in China and in the U.S. manufactured the switches… but they were simply manufacturing a part that was developed defectively from the get-go. So the country origin is irrelevant in this example.

  8. Bangs head on wall. The 2019 Envision is the typical GM two steps forward and two back. We get the 9 speed on the high end 2.0T models and headlight upgrades but then lose the plumb interior for another god forsaken black one and exposed exhaust on all 2.5 models right up to Essence giving away to the lame hidden exhaust. Why do they keep doing these things?
The same thing happens with exterior colors. They offer some neat and different colors like green or orange etc and then soon after delete them for the same old fifty shades of crap grey. And speaking of colors why does Buick keep charging extra money for just about every color besides white or black?

  11. The issue that I have with GM for being a trailblazer and importing Chinese made cars into the US is that the only reason they still exist as a company is because of the American people. You, me, and the rest of the American public spent $11.2 billion dollars to keep them from being liquidated and being sold off in bankruptcy court. That’s not all they received, that’s the difference between the amount of money GM was given and the amount they paid back; $11.2 billion is what we lost on them. Think about that: there’d be no GM without the American public. Mary Barra and Mark Ruess wouldn’t even work for the company were it not for the American people. One would think that our collective generosity would engender a steadfast loyalty to the good people living under the stars and stripes but, alas, that hasn’t been true. GM is paving the way for Chinese home-market brands like Geely to enter the US marketplace. Not only that but I fully expect if Envision is a success with little public resistance to its Chinese origins, GM will move more production to Pudong and in time, close more US factories under the guise of “re-aligning” production.

It’s insulting to drive past my local Buick dealer and see a gigantic American flag flying right over a lot full of cars imported from communist China. Witnessing that and knowing the only reason General Motors even still exists is because Americans bailed them out is annoying enough but realizing those Envisions are leading the charge to a future filled with Chinese cars causes there to be little left of my once great affinity for all things that wear the Mark of Excellence badge.

  12. Does the rear 60/40 bench seat still slide fore and aft? It is a nice feature that the cousins, Equinox and Terrain, do not offer.

You guys sound like a bunch of chicken littles with the sky is about to fall. Our 2016 Envision Prem has been rock solid it’s first year and a joy to drive.

  13. How comfortable are the seats after long drives? I remember my RendezVous seats tended to sink.

Also, are the air conditioning and heating powerful enough? I live in Canada.

Finally, is it noisy? At all speed?

  14. I’m 200 lbs 6-ft and find the driver’s seat flat, but comfortable. The thigh extender works for my 34″ inseam but on the passengers side I think it is too short. But not uncomfortable as I have put 6-7 drives in each seat and was never stiff. Most Buicks have comfortable seats.

The steering is as warm as they come and great in the winter. The seat heaters are not as warm as my wife’s Acadia but her seats are perforated and do not breath and are usually warmer.

The clmate controls are good with it cool in the summer with rear vents for the rear passengers. Plenty warm in the winter on longer trips after it has warmed up.

On a smooth road on a calm wind day the Envision glides down the road. Even rougher roads it is not too bad as the subframe is rubber insulated feom the body. On windy days it is very stable with some wind buffeting around the windows.
