Spirit of Daytona Racing, formerly known as Visit Florida Racing, has a new prototype racer for the 2018 IMSA season. The team announced its switch from its Nissan prototype racer to the Cadillac DPi-V.R. With the announcement, four Cadillacs will take the field as Spirit of Daytona Racing joins Action Express Racing and defending champions, Wayne Taylor Racing.
Cadillac walked away from the 2017 IMSA season, also its debut season, with a Manufacturer Title as well as the Team and Drivers’ Championships with Wayne Taylor Racing. Cadillac celebrated the victory with a pair of Championship special edition ATS-V and CTS-V vehicles.
The SDR Cadillac DPi will make its debut at the Rolex 24 Hours of Daytona with a reworked 5.5-liter V8 engine. The 2017 racers featured a 6.2-liter V8 engine. Tristan Vautier and Matt McMurry will pilot the new Cadillac racer as Spirit of Daytona Racing’s full-time drivers.
Er, SDR never had a Nissan DPi, they had a Riley-Gibson, and then a Ligier-Gibson. Yes, the “Gibson” used to be a Nissan P2 donk, but it’s not now. The folks driving Ligier-Nissans are the Patron team.
