Last week a pair of 1969 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1s sold for $1.1 million collectively, which makes the $75,000 price tag on this McLaren Can-Am 427-ci Chevy big block for sale on Hemmings much less daunting. Still, to put that price tag in perspective, you could purchase a brand new 2018 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 1LE for about the same amount of coin.
That said, the going price for a fully restored McLaren race car with a period-correct Can-Am racing engine is even higher than the selling price for the aforementioned ’69Â Camaro ZL1s. Considering that, suddenly, this engine doesn’t seem all that expensive.
This particular Can-Am V8 has just been rebuilt with a Crower valve train, forged crank, 12.5 CR McLaren dry sump pan with a Weaver dry sump pump, Stewart Stage 2 water pump, and more. It’s also been bored .30 over.
Given the exclusivity of this aluminum block, we figure there’s a collector or two out there willing to pay the price. It’s just a matter of time before this engine finds a new home.

I found this write up regarding a freshly rebuilt Mclaren Can-Am ZL1 engine. The write up is now over a year old. I am writing to ask what this engine sold for. I too will soon have a Reynolds Aluminum version of this Can-Am engine that I am trying to decide whether to keep or put up for sale. The link to Hemmings has timed out so I cannot tell if this write up was for a complete engine, intake to pan, or what was included. So in addition to the selling price, I need to find out if this was a complete Can-Am engine like mine will be when it is reassembled. Also, if the engine in the write up did sell, since it was a single item, were there any other interested parties you can put me in touch with who did not get the engine described in the write up?
Thank You for your assistance.
