The GM Authority Take

Despite the 14 percent decrease in December U.S. deliveries, the Tahoe remained the undisputed sales leader in its segment.

The Tahoe’s platform mate – the GMC Yukon (see GMC Yukon sales) came in second place, while the Ford Expedition (see Ford Expedition sales) came in third. Notably, Expedition sales figures include the regular-length Expedition and the extended-length Expedition L. As such, the Tahoe competes with the regular-length Expedition, while the larger Suburban competes with the extended-length Expedition L. The Nissan Armada was fourth, recording an impressive 36 percent sales increase, while the Toyota Sequoia brought up the tail end of the segment in fifth place.

Impressively, the Tahoe accounted for 25 percent of the segment’s sales volume in December, and the Tahoe and Suburban accounted for a combined 40 percent of the same. GM’s Chevrolet and GMC entrants ran away with a 75 percent share of the segment.

  1. One has to think that General Motors new 2.7L Opposed Piston 4-cyl engine making 270 horsepower and 450 lb-ft of torque which is scheduled to be the base engine in the 2019 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 would work well in the 2018 Chevy Tahoe as the 2.7L OP 4-cyl engine has the power of GM’s L83 5.3L EcoTec V8 yet can offer better mileage and meet emission standards until 2025.

    1. The 2.7L OP is a rumor… which has yet to be confirmed. A 2.7L with that output would be a decent replacement for the 5.3L L83… but does it need to be?
