Those attending the 2018 North American International Auto Show, which opens to the public on January 20, can stop by the Chevrolet area for a virtual reality experience.
The experience will put users behind the scenes during vehicle testing in a 360-degree front seat passenger ride through a variety of courses including gravel roads, extreme temperature labs and rock climbs that you would find at GM’s testing facilities.
It will give users a look at a few areas engineers and development teams subject vehicles to during the test process. That includes test chambers capable of simulating extreme temperature, humidity and altitude. The chamber can also simulate speeds up to 100 mph. As just one example, the 2019 Chevrolet Silverado underwent the full scale of tests and should accumulate 7 million miles before the truck goes on sale later this year.
The NAIAS runs from January 20 through January 28.
