The GM Authority Take
Buick Cascada sales continue to fade, a circumstance that we attribute to the model showing its age (particularly in the in-vehicle technology department) while facing competition from the Audi A3 Convertible. What’s more, the ongoing shift in consumer purchase patterns that favors CUVs and SUVs over other vehicle types like sedans, coupes and convertibles can not be helping Cascada sales.
Even so, the Cascada was always meant as a vehicle to fill “white space” for Buick, enabling it to change the brand’s perception as well as to attract new-to-brand customers. Numbers released by GM show that the Cascada has been successful in doing just that, with nearly 70 percent of Cascada customers being new to GM.
We expect Cascada sales to continue steady or to decrease in the coming months as long as the crossover craze persists, and Buick doesn’t update the model with new technologies.
About Buick Cascada
The Buick Cascada is a compact convertible. The current, first-generation Cascada was introduced for the 2016 model year. Essentially a rebadged Opel/Vauxhall Cascada, the vehicle is based on a variant of the GM Delta II platform shared with the Opel Astra and first-generation Chevrolet Cruze, Chevrolet Volt and Opel Astra J.
For the 2018 model year, the Cascada gets three new exterior colors, two new convertible top colors and expanded availability of the Dark Effects Package.
The Buick Cascada is built exclusively at the GM-Opel Gliwice, Poland factory operated by GM/Opel Europe, which earlier this year was sold to PSA Groupe, along with all of Opel and Vauxhall.

Three things hurting Buick Cascada sales is that it’s base price is about $10K more than a 2018 Chevrolet Equinox CUV, the 2018 Buick Cascada tips the scale at 3,979 lbs meaning it’s also about 200 lbs heavier than the Equinox and despite the 200 horsepower LWC 1.6L DOHC-4v turbo 4-cyl engine isn’t much fun to drive.
And people measure the curb weight and also cross-shop the Cascada with the Equinox… riiiiight…
Have you driven it? Its owners love it. What are you even talking about?
Aside from the white space thing –
and the complications from the Opel buy-out …
Hasn’t Cascada done it’s job?
If you do the math, .7 of of 408 is 280 ‘new to Buick’ buyers. Roughly one per day.
Wonder at what point Cascada is retired, in favor of a new white space (or two or three) vehicles take Cascada’s place? The Regal, for one, or the reimagined minivan –
not dawging the Cascada. Just wonder when it’s time to put it out to pasture.
Sorry, that was 10 per day, not one.
Put a Cadillac badge on it and suddenly it’s a bargain!
The problem is the exterior looks good, but that’s where the positives end…If you like the looks and research it, you’ll see it’s not well reviewed…Its built in Poland which does bother some buyers including those who wrongfully assume all Buicks are built in America…There’s a surprisingly lack of available equipment or even options for a Buick, no push button start…Buicks lease surprisingly well, their biggest SUV the $39K Enclave has $809 down and $349/mo yet the $34K Cascada is $5400 down and $369/mo…Finally the driving experience itself which is reportedly note good…0-60 is mid 8s but the MPG is low, reportedly just feels very under powered with a low quality ride…
This is the kind of vehicle that kick it’s own tail. Since Opel is no longer part of GM how come no Alpha or even Cruze derived Cascada that’s fun to drive and more affordable?.
GM along with Ford keep making cars in Transylvania with limited appeal and want you to buy some oversized buba-uck pick-up because some greed driven CEO wants to appease his Wall St. overlords.
As far as I know, the Volkswagen Group also supports the registration of Audi vehicles in the United States. As in Germany, 80% of Audis in the US are only self-registrations of dealers. At BUICK, the Cascadas are handed over to new customers, ie sold. That’s why Cascada sales are sometimes down. Or you sell less Cascadas, as the exchange rate of the Euro to the Dollar is currently extreme. Neither BUICK, GM, OPEL, PSA and BUICK want losses. Fewer cars means less loss!
I hope that BUICK, GM, PSA and OPEL will soon bring the cool ADAM, Corsa and Astra to the USA. Especially the ADAM S and ADAM S Rocks are the hammer car for sportive BUICK and GM new customers.
Drive a MY18 Cascada and any engine MY18 Camaro convertible and you’ll drive away in the Camaro…The Cascada is not well liked by the automotive media…
