On Wednesday, we learned the 2019 Silverado 3.0-liter Duramax diesel engine will be built in Flint, Michigan. Today, it’s more good news for the Flint Engine Operation.
Local news affiliate ABC 12 reported on Thursday that the 3.0-liter Duramax diesel engine could add up to 200 jobs at the plant.
Assistant Director for UAW Region 1 D, Steve Dawes, said, “Instead of having 300 or 400 people work at a place, now you’re going to have 700.”
“That’s big news,” he added.
GM invested $250 million into the Flint engine plant in 2015 in preparation for the new inline-six turbodiesel engine. High-feature engine production at Flint moved to Romulus to make room for the 2019 Chevrolet Silverado 1500‘s new diesel powerplant.
Most importantly, Dawes said the jobs coming to the plant will be good ones. He said most will be full-time positions and new hires will have the ability to climb into higher wages with time. Relocated employees will be considered first for the upcoming positions.
