Designing a truck to please the masses is no easy task, but the 2019 Chevrolet Silverado exterior design and trim level structure doesn’t cater to only one group of buyers. For the fourth-generation Silverado, designers were tasked with penning a truck for every price and every persona.
In Speaking to GM Authority, Rich Scheer, lead 2019 Silverado exterior designer, said that the team made a conscious effort to provide a truck for everyone. That much is clear in the dizzying array of trims available to start – a total of eight, ranging from the Work Truck and Custom to the luxurious LTZ and High Country.
Scheer alluded that one of the major design goals for the 2019 Chevrolet Silverado exterior was to incorporate the “sport” trend many buyers look for in pickups today. The Silverado LT Trailboss is the best example. The pickup doesn’t wear an ounce of chrome, instead trading the flashy look for a black front fascia and more body-color elements.
Many customers still want the chrome, but more want sport trends or body colors, he said.
Thus, Chevy thinks it has its truck buyers pegged into three areas:
- High-value are the Work Truck, Custom and Custom Trailboss trims
- High-volume are the LT, RST (Rally Sport Truck) and LT Trailboss trims
- High-feature are the LTZ and High Country trims
You can see all of these trims in pictures here.
It’s a key theme for the 2019 Silverado exterior: be the best damn people pleaser possible to attract the masses. A pickup for the people, for all the persons.

Give me some chrome and normal looking silver alloy wheels. The black look is not my thing at all! Some body color is okay too.
