Volvo Car Subscription Service Starts At $600 Per Month, Undercuts Book By Cadillac

A $600 per month car payment is hardly an affordable sum for many drivers, but Care by Volvo provides more than just a car for the money. The brand announced its car-subscription service will start at $600 per month for the new XC40 luxury crossover, and if you’re following, that’s substantially less than Book by Cadillac’s $1,800 monthly fee.

It’s not a direct apples-to-apples comparison, however. Book by Cadillac lets users swap into any Cadillac Platinum, Premium Luxury or V trim for the same price. The Volvo’s $600 fee only applies to the XC40 crossover in T5 Momentum trim, which will serve as the program’s launch vehicle. Still, it’s not a bad value even if other services offer more premium features. The sportier R-Design trim will be an extra $100 per month.

For $600 a month, Volvo will cover insurance through Liberty Mutual, and all service down to the tires is included during the subscription period. Roadside assistance, a concierge service and 24/7 customer care are all included as well. Volvo will only give subscribers 15,000 miles per year, however. Cadillac’s service covers all the same plus white-glove delivery and the ability to swap into a different car without commitment.

Those interested will have to commit to the subscription for two years at minimum, but after the term, drivers can walk away or jump into another Volvo.

Eventually, Volvo will add every car to the program, but it doesn’t have a firm timeline just yet. Meanwhile, Cadillac expanded its program to Los Angeles and Dallas, and it added more vehicles to match its growth. Will car subscriptions be the next big thing? Multiple brands think so.

  1. Good thing the desirability of a Volvo undercuts Cadillac too.

Also, isn’t the XC40 the only car available with this subscription?

  2. That XC40, and all updated ‘Vo’s for that matter, are gorgeous. I’m curious to see if they offer a similar lease program in Canada and more specifically in Ontario where insurance could mess things up.

  3. Not sure which model, but I read Uber bought 25,000 Volvos – autonomous, I think (?).
