Retro Goodness: ’91 Turquoise Metallic Corvette ZR-1 Lands On ‘Bring A Trailer’

Up for auction on BringATrailer.com right now with twenty two hours left to go at the time of this writing is a singularly funky piece of retro motoring Americana: a 1991 Chevrolet C4 Corvette ZR-1 in Turquoise Metallic. We’re not sure how many high-performance turquoise sportscars have been built in all of human history, but we figure it’s got to be a pretty small number.

Better still: this example appears well-preserved, showing just 25,600 miles on the odometer.

The C4 ZR-1 was Chevrolet’s second go at making a high-performance ZR-1 model, with a Lotus-designed, 5.7-liter DOHC V8 named “LT5” under the hood, capable of spitting out up to 375 horsepower. A 6-speed ZF manual transmission sent that power to the rear axle, in the days before the transaxle Corvette. Visually, the C4 Corvette ZR-1 is differentiated from a regular C4 by a widening body from the door’s leading edge rearward, with a full three inches’ widening at the back.

According to the listing, this C4 Corvette ZR-1 has done just 2,000 miles since it passed to its current owner a year-and-a-half ago. The pilot bearing was replaced in December, 2016; the A/C was most recently recharged last May; and the car sports a period-correct exhaust upgrade. The cabin is black and factory stock, with the original well-cushioned leather seats and a rebuit Bose stereo system.

The bid for this 1991 Chevrolet C4 Corvette ZR-1 right now stands at $15,650 – less than the price of a single Bitcoin. We know which we’d rather have.
